Wow, so now I feel all self-conscious, hehe. I have a whole thread about me! Miss Neecerie was nice enough to create a thread; I ended up hijacking the Purchases thread. lol

Wow, great finds, guys! :eusa_clap Daisy, you have such wonderful taste! And JBD, that necklace looks like it will be tons of fun to wear! BellaHell, wow, you are the kind of shopper I want on my side if we ever had to have a shopping war :p FooFoogal, what an amazing sweater, its just georgeous! I know there are other great things that I am forgetting to comment on. I am just on overload and my brain is feeling funny lol

I have a predicament, I don't know what to do. But for a good reason :) There are a couple of dresses on the Bay right now that should be a perfect fit, and at the moment, they are still at a reasonable price. The only thing is, I won't be this size for much longer, I am 6 weeks pregnant, I have known for a couple weeks now :D :D :D

So do I bid on the dresses, wear them for about a month, and then pray I will fit into them again after the baby is born? Or do I wait to see what size I will be later? Decisions, decisions! And the hubby seems to think it doesn't make sense to spend money on clothes right now, that I should just wait and buy maternity stuff in a couple of months. What think you ladies?

Congratulations GoldLeaf, what wonderful and exciting news. Keep us informed as to how you're doing.

I would go for it and buy the dresses. You'll get some use out of them for a couple of months. Then, you'll be able to wear them again someday after the baby arrives. If not, you could always put them back on the bay!

Congrats!!

Anytime hon!! lol

Well, I would say hold off on buying the dresses unless you love one of them SO MUCH it might be your incentive to lose the baby weight! Otherwise...put the money in the bank for diapers. ;)

Congratulations, GoldLeaf!!

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with Daisy on this one. Preparing for the arrival of a baby is a costly affair, and I personally don't think it makes sense to spend money on clothes that you will get little wear out of. Also, as much as I hate to say this, it's not realistic to assume that you will regain your figure after having your baby. Even though plenty of women lose the weight, more often than not, the shape of your body changes permanently. I also hate to assume that I can always resell something on ebay, because I've had experiences buying things on ebay that I was then unable to sell later on.

If you're made of money, go for it, but I say the money can be better used someplace else!

I am so thrilled for you! Congratulations! As I recall reading about you, you are quite tall, right? (Sorry if I have this wrong...) Anyway, if you've found some things that would fit you just right, it must be VERY tempting to go ahead and get them. It is a gamble, of course, since the chest and hips can tend to expand some after childbirth, even if the weight comes off. And then there's the matter of your husband's thoughts on the matter. So here's my advice, being an old married lady for 33 years now: respect the hubby and hold off on the items. There will still be lots of cute items for you when the time comes, and in the meantime you can be figuring out what adorable outfits you can put together for your season of pregnancy! Your husband is likely feeling the additonal financial responsibility of this new member of the family, and by showing him you understand that and listening to his counsel, you will be strengthing your relationship; cute vintage clothes can't compare to a happy couple working together to provide for their family! Just my two cents' worth! Best wishes!

Thanks for the congrats, we are thrilled! And to think, the fertility doctor was going to put me on drugs this month. Turns out we didn't need them lol

Some very sage advice from you ladies, thanks! I was worried about what Kitty mentioned. Because I am tall, my measuements are proportionatly large, and I am afraid that my 42 inch hips will end up being so large that I will look like a triangle :p

Etienne, your experience and wisdom are much appreciated. Thanks for helping remind me about all the common sense that I seem to have forgotten since I found out I was pregnant. I'm just so giddy :D

So, I will probably hold off purchasing things. I was excited because I hadn't seen things that would actually hit at my waist in quite a while. Ah well, I will just get some cute maternity things instead :D Ooo, or put the money toward that extra cool stroller. Wow, priorities change pretty fast :D

Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack the thread :) Back to what people have actually purchased ;)

Congratulations, GoldLeaf!

I suggest looking for some vintage maternity wear or patterns instead of purchasing the items you are eyeing. The nice thing about 1930s-40s maternity clothing is that is was designed to grow with you, and many styles do not look like maternity clothing at all. So, the outfits can be worn before you really start showing, throughout the pregnancy, and after the baby is born (that is, if you aren't sick of wearing the outfits by then.:))

Congrats!

I once bought a vintage maternity top in the Salvation Army. It's not "Golden Era" -- it's more 60s, but it's still cute. Seriously, I only bought it because I thought it was a mini-dress!! It wasn't until I got it home and put it on when I realised what it was :eusa_doh: Still, if the chance ever arises that I may need such clothes, I'll gladly wear it with pride!

So check your thrift shops for any "mini-dresses"! ;)
