    What Are You Reading

Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Staphen J. Dubner. Great book, it really makes you think about certain things in a new way. Plus it's hilarious at times.

    Great Movie Soundtracks

The soundtrack of the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice is beautiful. And I'm such a geek, but Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter brings tears to my eyes. Yeah, make fun of me all you want, but Harry Potter is the best :)

    Show us what you've made!

Wow I havn't checked in here in a while...but there is alot of great work going on! Here is my first project that I would consider wearable, a yellow skirt. I didn't make it from a pattern, just kind of saw what I wanted in my head and figured out how to make it. I'm pretty proud of it...

Does anyone use a name that's not their own?

My first name is Lauren. Middle is Elizabeth. I like Elizabeth more, and would prefer it as my first name. I think it fits me better. I did have a stage in middle school in which I made people call me Lizzie. (I had just read Pride and Prejudice for the first time and I wanted to be...

Hair Dye: colors, product reviews, and tips

I fixed my hair! I ended up buying professional hair color at Sally's and a 10 developer instead of a grocery store hair color kit. I used it like I normally use the box kit, and it worked perfectly! Thanks for the advice ladies :)

Hair Dye: colors, product reviews, and tips

Thanks for the help! The red has been a real pest. As much as I liked it for a while, I just wish it would go away! I think I'll just dye it again, making sure to leave it on the light areas for WAY longer than the roots.

Hair Dye: colors, product reviews, and tips

I have a question for those who dye their hair at home. I've been dying mine a lighter shade than my natural hair color (a dark strawberry blonde with a few streaks that were bleached platinum by the sun) at home for about 2 years. I finally decided to go back to my natural color (dark...

What do you do for Living?

I'm a college student majoring in Cultural and Historic Preservation. I work in the archaeology lab at my university, cleaning and organizing artifacts from 18th century dig sites I've worked on in the past 2 years. I like archaeology alot, but I am hoping to go to grad school for museum...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

MissAmelina, I wouldn't have said The Tudors, but to me you have a striking resemblance to Leighton Meester (sp?), who plays Blair on Gossip Girl. (and that is a compliment, I think she (and you!) are gorgeous!)

Everyday Women of the Golden Era

This is a great thread! I love seeing everyday women...even though it makes me a little sad that not everyone is this poised and gorgeous anymore. It's funny, I was looking through some old pictures with my grandma, and I told her how I thought that women in the 1940s and 50s were so...

    Motifs

Cool thread! I'm fond of all things nautical since I live by the sea. Little anchors, sailboats and lots and lots of Navy Blue and White combos. I'm also a big fan of vintage travel themed things...Whenever I am traveling I look for things that have a vintage look but still show...

I love my 99 cents NYC lipsticks! Here is retro red: I also like Sheer Red by NYC. I wish they would make more lipstick that arn't sparkly...I hate the metallic lipsticks.

    Young loungers

Thanks Scotrace for merging these threads. I searched for College and High School Loungers, so that's why I didn't find this. I know the feeling of being the "different one"...whenever I wear a dress or skirt, I get asked if I have to make a presentation or if I am going somewhere special...

    Young loungers

I started this thread, yet I forgot to mention, I'm a college freshman. Geesie, obviously it's jealousy lol Though I don't think it was jealousy that provoked laughter when I told my friends how an 80 year old man winked and smiled at me at the grocery store. My mom said I probably...

    Feeling Good vs. Looking Good

It's so true! When I actually put in the effort to look good, I'm so much happier. Unfortunatly, it is the times when I am already stressed and am doing too much that I don't have time to look nice, which in turn makes me feel worse! It's a vicious cycle. :(

    Young loungers

Of course you count Geesie and Diamondback! I have a feeling financial constraints will be a common theme in this thread lol  I have mostly vintage inspired and repro pieces. I can't afford real vintage right now, unfortunatly. And Caity Lynn...I get told that I was born...

    Young loungers

High School and College Aged Loungers Hey all, I searched but I didn't find a thread for this, so: Who is still in High School/College? I figure this thread is basically a place for the younger crowd to gather, and talk about how you got into vintage, how you deal with buying vintage...

What would your name be? (Gents too!)

I don't like my name (Lauren) because when it became really popular right around when I was born. In every class I have taken there is at least one other Lauren...and usually more. I really like my grandmother's name, Lillian. Like others here, I also like Mae...which was my great aunt's name.
