Get well, Colby Jack
To the conspirators behind this, you are all good good people. The world needs a greater sense of community like this place has.
Along with the chorus, my prayers and best wishes go out to you.
The hat loks great, Blackthorn! Jealous, I don't have a Dobbs yet.
Thanks for the shop pics too. I remember reading posts about the grand re-opening of that store and I have to say it looks like it'd be a lot of fun to shop in.
Hey iceman
I remember reading on here about people using Scout and Kahl Felt Hat Stiffener. Maybe run a google on those to see fedora lounge discussions and stockists. Hope it helps.
Cheers
Hey Picker
Here's some for you. Excuse the picture quality, I felt totally "myspace" doing it. I have too full a face for it, but I don't care. I like stingies.

Yes, those are playing cards. It originally came with a bright blue feather which finds its way in the ribbon...
Hi BlondeonBlonde
Toyo is a straw type, but not really. If I remember, it's a type of paper that's been made into a yarn.
Here's a link http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=7631 that tells you all about the different types.
Could very well be an unglazed straw, has that...
lol Strand and City Hatters - Two Aussie institutions and there's a bit of discontent.
I made a Brixton hats at City once and got no response so I imagine I won't get any regarding this, but will post any responses.
Well, in terms of service I would hope they would be able to read customers and know who to leave alone and who to talk to. I'm more likely to make a purchase when I'm engaged or feel that connection with the retailer. At least carry through on the basics when finalising purchases, at least...
I own a Madison. Nice thick, soft fur - I actually really like the feel of the fur felt, softer and less coarse than the akubras I own. I find it has trouble holding its crease and shape, but perhaps I need to give it some shots of steam.
I bought this early on when I started wearing hats...
Has anyone here been to City Hatters in Victoria, Australia?
I understand it's an institution. Been around for many a year, has a great look, feel and location under Flinders St station. This is my second time in there, but I have to say the customer service is fairly sub standard. Both...
Thought I saw a clip with him taking something, but I may have been mistaken. I hope he has done it, because I want to see someone go past the sanitised Holmes. Kind of like Ellery Queen.
I like Jude's Cambridge bowler too. I recently bought a Penn-Craft bowler after reading the Bowler/Derby threads and am wondering whether I should have sought a Cambridge instead.
The brim styling on Holmes fedora is too avant garde for me. :) Looking forward to it the movie, I like the...
Wear it out and expose the area that was sanded? Although it may weather at a similar rate to the rest of the hat leaving you with the same problem... Or is it possible to collect and glue felt from another section of the hat onto the spot?
Beats me. Nice crown, great brim width, so I'm throwing early model. Nice colour and the grosgrain ribbon colour is superb. Even has that flare at the end of the bow, which I think was done in the past. Can't quite tell from the pics but it's probably a Cav-edge, but can't see anything in...
Imperial
To follow up on theinterchange, as an owner of a few Akubra imperial felts the stiffness does die down over time. A lot of discussion on the Feds in the forum, enjoy the agony of deciding. :)

Holy crap! You pry yourself away from buying for a few months and vintage hat prices go through the roof. The Cav is nice though, but I didn't see the word "Whippet" anywhere to warrant the price for that Royal Stetson. Was it an ill-informed purchase or was there something...
Welcome Neil
Having joined only early this year (or was it late last year?) I still remember the anticipation that comes with buying hats. You'll find a lot of passion and learn a lot here - there's always knowledge being collected, shared and uncovered.
Be prepared to make some mistakes, I...
