Hat Wearers: You're Just Trying to Be Don Draper. Stop It.

Cognitive Content Anal-ysis In this paragraph, the author brilliantly used inarguable logic to hammer home his point. Allow me to explicate. "You can never bring back the fedora" No one I know is trying to "bring back" men's hats as a fashion trend-they just wear them. Hats...

Tell us your favorite urban walking boot or shoe

MBTs Not pretty, I admit. However, for walking/standing days at a time, 8 hours per day on city streets and sidewalks, MBTs are truly amazing (but not for hiking.) The best I've experienced. Zappos carries them, I think.

    Naptha Mystery?.....

Hi folks - I had my Optimo blocked and cleaned this summer. It came back in wonderful shape. However, the fumes from what ever solvent was used were overwhelming (to me and anyone nearby.) It's been over two months now and the fumes have not lessened or dissipated, which seems almost...

    THE SUNBODY ASSOCIATION

Brim/crown size advice? I'm thinking of ordering a Guatemalnan fine palm fedora and have read all the posts where this is discussed on this thread. But...How do you figure out attractive brim/crown proportions for your hats? Do you do it by height/body type? Or do you just go by whatever...

    THE SUNBODY ASSOCIATION

Peter Bros Milan? HI RBH- I, too, love the hat in your avatar. Is that the Peter Bros. Milan you are referring to? If so, I can't find it on their site. Does Peter Bros. make it, or is it under one of the other liens they carry? How "tough" is it under summer conditions? (Peter Bros have...

Advice on a hat rack/coat rack?

Hi folks-Did a search but came up with nothing. Per your collective advice, I store my hats seasonally in hat boxes. However, I have no safe place to keep them while I wear them-other than my head. Our home is badly suited to the installation of a hat rack-no wall or closet space, and our...

First Post - Need Hat Color Advice

Permission to wear a brown Federation? So-here's the question: I spend most of my outdoor life here (late fall to early-mid spring) in a 3/4 black horsehide leather Aero coat. Does a Fedora look good with such a coat? If so, what style? What color? (Did a search, but nothing really...

    Light weight felt hats

Thanks for the advice, folks re: the inadvisability of a black summer fedora. By the way, if you order a hat from Art, beware the so-called "conformer" he will send you to allegedly determine your hat size. Once you have it on and properly tightened, you'll confess to absolutely anything to...

    Light weight felt hats

Well, I'm on the list-may be first for all I know. So, here's my question. Is it insane to buy a black summer fedora, or is the color to heat ratio overexaggerated? And.......what does "natural" look like? (The hat will be used very casually-walking the beach, hiking and so on. Thanks...

    "Hatless Harry" Apparel Arts

Since joining this forum about 2 yrs ago and starting to wearing hats, I really don't understand why they went "out of style." I understand why Elizabethan ruffs and codpieces aren't seem much today. I'd understand if ties went out of style - fashion with no function. However, hats look cool...

    adventurebilt advice

Thanks again, folks, for the advice. Ordered a beaver Adventurbilt in grey (don't know what shades of grade are on offer), with a Kaleponi Craig bash. Should arrive in about 10 weeks...... js

    adventurebilt advice

Finally (promise I'll stop now) - I've been trying to find one of the various threads on matching hat color with clothing color, but 'search' isn't revealing them to me, I'm afraid. Can anyone inform me or direct me? (I'm thinking grey for this hat, but want to make sure it's a good match for...

    adventurebilt advice

any advice as to beaver vs. rabbit? (I hope that you're wrong about it looking best on the tall, lean type. I'm a 5' 10" former competitive weight lifter! I'll probably look like Oddjob but in a classy hat!:( ) Thanks again for all your (collective) help. js

    adventurebilt advice

Gorgeous hat! :eusa_clap Best thing about it, aside from the quality, seems to be that it is not at all "costumey" - in addition to the film it references, it's also an elegant looking, 1930s era fedora.

    adventurebilt advice

Hi folks: Thinking of ordering an Adventurebilt F&G. Using 'search', it seems that the lounge's opinion of the quality of these hats is very high (although some comment that not everyone looks OK in that syle.) For those of you who own one, what's your opinion of the hat, what face/body...

    Quality?

Thanks for the information. Does anyone know a source for a four-way stretcher? Are stretchers useful to keep in a hat while stored over the summer? Thanks- js

    Vests

Source for vests/waistcoats? Hi folks - I like the look of a "dress" vest with no suitjacket. Plus, I can get away with it in my office, as well. It also accomodates pocket watches, another plus. Do any of you know of a quality on-line supplier (need not be vintage)? Thanks- js

    Akubra Cattleman

I'm an Akubra owner, thanks to this site. These are great hats and serve to protect my Optimo in really bad weather...They do not all come open crown. The Traveller doesn't, nor does the Cattleman. The Federation does come open crown, however-and you shape it yourself. Thanks- js

    Work Hat for All Seasons?

Thanks so much for the advice! I have noticed that the Akubra seems bullet-proof re: snow, rain and etc. Also-someone at work mentioned a hat company called Tilley for this purpose. Anyone know about them? Thanks again- js

    Work Hat for All Seasons?

Hi folks - Sorry to bother you with this question, but although I'm registered, I can't seem to access the Search function. Thanks to whatever strange bug you people have infected me with, I now own an Optimo and an Akubra. Now, I'm looking for a hat that looks flattering/non-dorky...
