Hi everyone,
I am trying to order a Sheene in size 40 with Badalassi Russet directly from Aero. I am 5'8", 170lbs (~73kg), somewhat lean and relatively fit.
Considering:
- caramel stitching (want a slight contrast but not as much as cream stitching)
- hook zippers
- corduroy lining for durability
- either delete the hand warmer pockets or deleting top left pocket, but keeping handwarmers to make it more sleeker
- delete kidney patch inside and outside.

I am using my Dainese cafe racer style jacket for fit. It is bit loose in the chest and around my stomach/ waist that I believe I can tighten up a bit. See the picture where I clench the jacket to tighten it. Sleeve length seems fine, shoulder maybe a 1/2 inch large in this jacket that I can reduce (will adjust sleeve accordingly). Body length seems just right and covers my belt.

What do you all think of the Dainese fit in the pictures attached? Does it look like I can tighten it up a bit.
Any/ all comments welcome on the fit, as well as on the Sheene/Badalassi Russet choices.

Thanks all
Kayman

I think that trying to measure a Dainese to figure out how an Aero will fit is at best a ****shoot.
Different patterns fit differently, and different numbers applied to different patterns give different results.

It will give you a rough idea, but to use a different pattern to make 1/2" adjustments expecting a perfect fit in the end is IMO not going to work.

Especially when you consider the fact that teh maker in question has 1/2" as their allowed manufacturing tolerance...

In isolation, i think the Dainese fits ok, i just don't know how that information will help you get a good fit on an Aero.

Edit: just an example, Aero relies on a larger than average pit to pit measurement to give ease of movement in their jacket.
Meaning a size 40 Aero might have a 23.5" pit to pit as opposed to 22" for a size 40 in another brand.
Your Dainese jacket might have a tighter chest of 22", so you order your Aero with a 22" chest thinking "same as my Dainese, this will work".
BUT, the Aero might feel too tight with the 22" chest, because the pattern relies on the extra allowance to work, whereas the Dainese might make up the tighter chest by having different arm/shoulder design.

Sometimes different things are different for a reason and you can't make them the same.

For me a 50s style jacket which is meant to be boxy, looks better with era appropriate styles like straight cut jeans/ trousers with a higher rise

If you like modern slim fit i wouldn't even try a highwayman, especially if you start downsizing and altering jackets in length etc. to fit more slim and tight.
It kind of goes against the whole idea of what the jacket was designed for.
My 50s Hercules Horsehide bomber looks better with my high waist selvedge jeans, know what your saying

I’m having a custom Vanson made. I’m wearing a size 40 fit jacket. What do you think? Im going to lengthen the jacket about 1.5 inches. I’m wondering if the shoulders need to be widened at all. I’m also thinking of taking the waist in about 1.25 inches. Any other ideas?

One of my Vanson's fits the same, only worse. It's the "gap" in the front that's the issue, all else looks great. I would personally go for a slightly longer front (torso length) and keep the back similar in length. It makes for a strange proportion that is highlighted in their straight-zip models more than cross-zips from Vanson.

I can't because I need armor pockets and this one doesnt have 'em. But also, you don't think it's too short? It's above my belt buckle. View attachment 747207
I like an above the belt fit. It is also more practical for on a bike. If the jacket is longer it will push up into your chin when sitting. Particularly with stiffer leather. ALL motorcycle leather jackets intended for actual riding should have 2 way zippers.
i am also interested in discussing the need for armor in a pm if you would like to discuss.
I am basing my statements on this

Looks like your jacket is well below your belt buckle. I think it’ll still be comfortable in a seated position with the jacket hitting the middle of my belt. I have a pretty upright bike.

As for the armor, it’s the standard AR2 model that allows for a D3O back protector. I use one in all my jackets. I ride in Houston traffic on the highway; gotta protect the spine.

Your shoulders seams come out farther on your shoulder than my trial jacket. Do I need to add a bit of width to my shoulders?

Perhaps a quarter of an inch will be enough if you only have a T-shirt under your jacket.

Found this highwayman for a good price, its 15 years old, so already nicely broken in.

Took a bit of a gamble since this is my first leather jacket and had to assume what meassurments would be good, but i guess it worked out well.

Looks good to me. I weigh 95 kilos and have a highwayman in size 44 and my fit is identical. It's meant to be a boxy utilitarian style.

Post a picture sitting on your bike in the riding position so we can see how the jacket rests on your legs and covers your belt.
