Yeah buddy. I should’ve trusted Schott of YouTube and TFL

TFL is the only real source for leather jacket information that's accurate at this point. Schott's forum was excellent but they deleted it.

YouTube and Instagram are influencer garbage. Reddit is people (incorrectly) summarizing TFL posts.

It's just that there was an overcorrection for a while on TFL where people were wearing jackets too slim and too short in reaction to fashion jackets being too big. But this doesn't work either of course.

Well, here’s to hoping the next size up works for me. According to Schott it should. I want to be able to wear a crewneck under it sometimes too but my concern is the arms. Those armholes were so small so hopefully the next size up gives more room there.

I also think that people in general were wearing way too slim of clothing for a while

Hey all, looking for opinions on the fit of this vintage (90s?) Paul Stuart overcoat I just bought since returns are still accepted. It is a 40L and I'm a chest size 40 in suiting. This would be my first quality overcoat purchase.

I'm interested in opinions on the general fit of the coat, whether the color suits me, and if folks think it is too long. It hits 3-4 inches below my knee (I'm a bit over 6' 1"). I like a long, flowy look on overcoats as long as it doesn't look disproportionate.

I don't wear suits or jackets that often and was looking for a nice overcoat that is versatile enough to wear with business casual attire. Slacks, button ups, knitwear, and the occasional sport coat. This probably leans more formal than I was envisioning, but I'm a sucker for quality garments and this one has great fabric and thoughtful finishes, so I'm giving it serious consideration.

Hello, would love for fit comments from the learned members here.
I don’t have much experience in this style of jackets - my other jackets are all half-belts. What do you think of the lower/back in particular?
(First pic without the jacket for reference, next 3 are with jacket open and last 3 with jacket zipped)

I think it looks good, plus still with room for layering underneath. What concerns would you have with this?

Thank you both @MrProper and @Zoro.

Possibly too much fabric around the waist? Or is that common enough?
That's right. I overlooked that. But at least it's not so dramatic that I found it bothering. It may well be that this will improve over time as the leather breaks in. The jacket won't get tighter, but it will take shape.
But I know from my own experience that if something bothers you now, it will always bother you, regardless of whether others like it.

This looks like a good fit on a longer coat. I am also 6' 1" tall, and that's about how I like wool overcoats to fit.

I think you’re right, the jacket is a long way from broken in and it might still shape and drape quite a bit.
Thankfully it doesn’t both me much, I’m just still getting used to it and the jacket as a whole.
Thanks for the helpful input

The jacket suits you perfectly. Wear it with pleasure and the jacket will look even better.
