Terms and phrases, not beeing common in old Germany

I recently learned the term from Youtube.
People in Germany still do that, but I never heared someone here giving the thing a name, while doing.

I bet, we could find dozens of other things, old Germany is still doing, but has no term for it!

Ummm, Dosenschießen (Can shooting) or Dosenstechen are the German terms for that, even if you might not have heard them yet.

We hit the sack here as well, it just has an other / a wider connotation here, meaning to stop something, leave something or withdraw from something.

Hitting the sack in the sense of going to sleep would be called „sich hinhauen“, „sich auf’s Ohr hauen“… in German.

Historically, mattresses were made from cloth sacks stuffed with hay, so "hit the sack" and "hit the hay" are both slang versions of saying you're going to bed.
