What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

This week I will feature P. & C. Habig Wien & Berlin Hats. The hats will be from the 1920s up to the 1950s.

P. & C. Habig Wien "Special Qualität" Seiden (Silk) Zylinder Hut (Top Hat), Production Year 1934 (based on Paper Label). The workmanship is of very high quality with fantastic Brim work and Silk Plush application. The Off White Sweatband and Interior create a striking contrast with the Black Under Brim material. The brand, size plus overall near mint condition makes this a rare find. As an added bonus it came with a very unique Carrying / Storage Case.

Borsalino Ludoita Qualita Extra Superiore
View attachment 238292

Borsalino Ludoita Qualita Extra Superiore In Crema (Cream) Color
5 inch open crown
3/8 inch Silvery bone tri cord thin ribbon
3 inch brim with 1/8 matching binding
1 7/8 Supple brown leather sweatband.

My latest arrival Borsalino Qualita Extra Superiore Ludoita model in beautiful Crema (cream) color. This hat... if it were here during the original 30 Days to 30 Hats would have beyond a shadow of a doubt had a prominent position. It is in the styling of Stetson Open Road - thin ribbon matching skinny edge binding. And the felt very high quality super smooth And velvet touch without being a fuzzy type finish. It is not the super thin “blow a crease into it” felt of my Stetson Standard Quality. It is more of a Thicker luxurious dress weight Felt. That being said I put it through some paces with a few different creases and it handled them like a champ. From a basic center dent with soft front pinch... to a modified cattleman’s crease.. to a quick deeper diamond bash with strong side dents. It took it all in stride. It seemed to love the Cowboy shape. So we will see.

This hat had an original selling price of $25 and had some sort of cushion system behind the rear of the sweatband

@steur indicates this one to be of mid 1950’s to early 1960s. Thank you Stefan for that info and apparently forgetting to bid on this one. :);) I see a few of these have been posted on the lounge over the years. But not many

This hat took its sweet time in arrival. Due to a mix up in shipping it made a pit stop in Minnesota (no not to see Eric @Short Balding Guy). And in the mean time I received the Minnow Bucket that was meant to go to MN. It did not fit... so I decided to hold out for this big fish. Thank goodness the owner of the minnow bucket did not use the hat. For that purpose. And now it all right with the world.

Very nice pick up, Joe. I would have guessed from the pics the crown was more generous than that.

The crown does appear to the eye larger than it seems to measure... Open or creased. It is fairly broad and roomy though.... Which may keep it from measuring taller.

Thanks Stefan.

I'm still liking it well enough. Thanks.

That Wegener has some great looking felt. I still say it should be promoted to General

Such a great color on the Rockel. Very nice.

Thanks,
Michael
Thanks, Michael. I keep the Colonels separated to prevent any infighting for the promotion! Seems a bit odd that military ranks weren't used more widespread for hat-models. I know there's a "commander" model (forget which brand), but that's all I can come up with. Too civilian maybe?

WOW! The silk plush appears like it was purchased yesterday. Eye catching hat that is intriguing with the box and and invoice. Glorious hat in your collection. Your hat collection is truly museum worthy.

Ahhhhh a Borsolino in a Crema hue. That is an eye catcher. When you have that hat in hand all other felts pale in quality comparison. Glorious. Congrats!

Terrific hat for a cool morning. All summer mornings could be like this, IMO.

Looking good Michael
Thanks Joe. I really like that new Borsalino you got. Fantastic looking hat.

Cool morning in a Well Dressed Head Cap.

Yesterday I donned the same cap after lunch and headed back to work.

Be safe, be strong and see you on the streets soon, Eric -
That looks like a cap of generous cut, Eric. Enjoy the morning.

Still looks great. It is an Open Road clone in style, but is it just as stiff?
Thanks Stefan. It's not particularly stiff, but neither are some of my 50s era ORs. It is a well made hat.

Thanks Eric. I agree on the summer mornings. Having all of them like today would not get old.

Thanks all,
Michael

Two toppers worn here in one week! Splendid hat, Steve. Very high quality from Habig.
Stefan, Thank you! I just took photos wearing it. :) Mike really wore his.

Fine looking Rockel "Velourette" from you today! Great to see the German series jugging along.

I think Rockel might be the source of some of the sourced hats. The "Neumann" you posted a couple of days ago has the same paper label format.

Eric, Thank you! I actually have a P. & C. Habig Wien Seiden Zylinder Hut / Silk Top Hat from the late 1800s. That one would be a closer match to the invoice. I will dig it out today.

Super looking "Well Dressed Head" Cap from you today. The fabric pattern is striking!

Out with the old, in with the new.
Work hat for $45 from the Bay.
Some cleaning and steam shaping and this replacement looks brand new. Too bad it won’t take very long for it to look like the old one.
I’ve just found out that genuine shantung is “a coated paper made straw that is more durable than the straw it imitates.”
So maybe it’ll last a little longer.
