Good morning and thanks for the appreciations and likes on yesterday's Panizza and no-name bowler. More gems are coming and even some stones that have long rolled on the paths of life.

Today, while I was photographing the remaining hats of the lot, I wore this Borsalino that comes from the excellent discovery in Merano three years ago.

It is a massive Lobbia Borsalino, similar to the French "Diplomatique" I wore these days.

So for the Homburg & Festivity series a Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 6 1/2 or 60 centimeters or 7 1/2 in the US.
The color of the felt "Rutenio" is one of the innumerable grays used in Borsalino production.

The ribbons that adorn it match the color of the felt.
The color is in perfect harmony with the sky which after a flash of shy sun has returned to ruthenium gray.

Happy Tuesday everyone and thank you for your likes on the splendid, in my opinion, Ecuyer & Thomas of saturday.
I love that Pearl Gray color Daniele.

Bought this one about 25 years ago on a trip out West with the wife. Stopped at this little hat shop, he had this one he'd made for a customer who never picked it up, so gave me a bargain on it. Not sure if they are still there...
Man I love that hat, Perry. there was a Weather Hat Company way out in South Dakota near the WY border, but they must have taken a hit over the past year, as it appears they are permanently shut down. I had hoped to make a visit one of these days.

This is the low-end Royal Quality, and it had gotten quite floppy. A couple of treatments with Kahl hat stiffener may have saved its life, though it still has a lot of flange.

Beater 1950s Dobbs Twenty

099229CF-7DB2-4D70-B787-0D740CA8369F.jpeg

2 inch Cavanagh edge brim
4 5/8 to 3 1/2 slant crown crease
Braided leather hat band

We all here seem to have various degrees of measure as to what qualifies as a beater. This one to me fits that definition very well. I picked up this beat up 1950s Dobbs Twenty a couple months back for a few bucks not knowing the size or much about its condition. Turned out a fairly shot sweatband and a couple sizes too big at 7 1/4. The felt is fairly faded as you can see where the original ribbon has been replaced with a braided leather band almost like the end of an old whip. There are a couple small wear tears in the pinch of the crown but MAN what a crease!!! A super tight pinch with a slant. Rakish both front to back and left to right. The oil skin liner is completely unattached. Sure I could reinstall it. But what’s the need. I say shove some felt strips in the back to soak up some of the extra room and wear this till what’s left of the sweat falls out as a beach and bad weather ultra casual beater hat!!
