The german bands does a late 40s-50s jump blues style. To get one of the original artists of this time back on stage was a great idea. Soon he will be too old for this I am afraid.

Just came from a senior performance recital at Manhattan School of Music, given by friend, trumpet player Mike Davis. He's a senior there (duh), but he plays professionally all over the city with all the top 20s bands. He's just great. He collected a bunch of his jazz buddies (some of the top traditional jazz players in the city) and they did an evening of Bix Beiderbecke and Louis Armstrong favorites. Just sensational.

Mike is second from the right here, wearing his very spiffy 1926 tux.

Had quite an evening last night. (As described in my post in the Nicest comment I ever heard thread.)
What a saw last night were two amazing shows. The first was a one woman performance by a woman named Susan Claassen, called A Conversation With Edith Head. It was uncanny, fascinating, fun, informative, just great. Here's a little more info on it. She's done it over 250 times around the world, so if you get a chance to see her, grab it.

Then I hopped on the subway and went uptown to the Cafe Carlyle, and saw Tales From the Jazz Age: An F. Scott Fitzgerald Songbook. It's a show put together by Will Friedwald, jazz columnist from the Wall Street journal and a cabaret artist named Sarna Lapine. It featured three great singers, and some carefully scattered quotes from various Fitzgerald stories and novels. The songs were all songs mentioned in one way or another by the author. Aside from just being very well done and EXTREMELY enjoyable, it provided a nice balance to the fun but far from authentic experience of the Gatsby film and the Baz Lurhmann juggernaut.

Took my daughter to see Landon Austin in Cleveland (with Luke Conard)- and she got to meet him. Great show. No AC at the Venue in 90+ degree weather.
Clean cut chaps. Vintage hair.

The last musical act I saw live was the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas show last December, and before that was Steve Martin & Steep Canyon Rangers last July. I guess I need to get out more.

This was the second time my wife and I seen John Pizzarelli live. He performed with his wife Jessica Molaskey at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood, Ca. If you have not seen him live I highly recommend it! Wonderful performer and jazz guitarist. Here is a clip of his earlier years:

Straightjackets & SCOTS are always a great show! The end of October we're going to the Mondo Zombie Boogaloo show featuring both the Straightjackets & SCOTS along with The Fleshtones. Both of them in the same show should be quite entertaining!
