Our European friends might not know what to think about us Americans and our guns. However, I’ve never seen someone handle a Colt 1873 SAA Peacemaker (are there more names?) and not fall in love. The feel, the sound, the balance...such a great revolver. I’ll take a first generation in 4 5/8” if you come across one that’s mint and cheap :)

Great observations.

Mint and Cheap.... Pick one.

Has anyone seen Panos @PanosChris posting here recently? It’s always a bit worrisome when active members just stop posting. I hope all is well.
I agree, Brent, particularly in these times. My own activity has been more quick in and out than it used to be so sometimes I think I must have just missed people. Both Ken and Doc seemed absent for a little while and I was becoming concerned.

Mint and cheap is a contradiction in terms. You can listen to some wheelguns spin and learn how to crack a safe.

2020-04-21 20.01.46.jpg I'm wearing a very nice late 40s early 50s Pilgrim today. I think the brand emerged then and came out of a Lee shop.
It's an extremely nice hat with great hand.

I’ve exchanged some PMs with Panos, but his absence was unsettling. Max, like Ed and others, decreased their activity here when Tapatalk was removed. I completely agree with them that the experience here after Tapatalk was removed is nowhere near as enjoyable.

Great history there Steve. Sounds like they had a very impressive operation.
Tim, Thanks! By the mid 1920s JHS had 3 factory locations: Main Factory Neutitschein / Nový Jičín (became Tonak post WWII), Racibórz (in Czech Ratiboř, in German Ratibor)- today a part of Poland, Skoczów(in Czech Skočov)- today a part of Poland (became PolkaP post WWII).

J. Hückel´s Söhne were famous for Velour Soft Felt Hats but their Stiff Felt Hats were also very popular. This week I will feature J. Hückel´s Söhne Stiff Felt Hats.

J. Hückel'a Synove Vídeň (J. Hückel´s Söhne Wien) early 1900s. The felt is dense and has a very nice smooth finish. The weight is 149 grams. The crown has a lower profile with a wide flat brim. The brim curl is extremely tight. The liner is especially fantastic. Same with the textured sweatband.

30 Days to 30 Hats - Day 21
Dobbs Gay Prince

View attachment 229626

Dobbs Gay Prince
Tan light weight soft felt
4 1/2 crown as bashed at highest point
3/4 self felted ribbon with whip stitched trim
2 3/4 to 2 7/8 brim with whip stitched edge binding

I think this may be 1940s vintage Dobbs Gay Prince. I love the feel of this felt... super thin and extremely moldable. When this hat arrived it had popped its brim stitching so I had to replace it. It has some staining on the liner.. but other than that fantastic shape. I don’t find too much occasion to wear this hat but I really enjoy it.

I’m not a fan of whip stitching, but I like a nice, old hat. That one sure is fine!

Is/was the brim configuration of U.S. hats any differentthan the European bowlers that preceeded them?

Coming from New Zealand, where not even the police carry guns, I must admit that it’s hard for me to fathom. That said, it would have made a great addition to my poncho pics!

I was camping outside Yosemite National Park a couple summers ago and some very nice folks from Europe turned cold and aloof before packing up and moving on to camp elsewhere after noticing a gun in my hip. It was an eye opening experience for me. I was raised with firearms and grew up hunting and shooting. I’ve carried a handgun almost constantly for the last 30+ years. I just don’t even think about it. It’s like licking out a pair of socks; which handgun and holster does the day call for.

I can believe it. Several of my uncles are farmers. They had one rifle between them which was occasionally used for rabbits. So I’ve been rabbit shooting a couple of times, but other than that I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone with a gun in New Zealand. Obviously they’re around and there is a special division of the police that can carry guns in special circumstances, but in general you just never see them. It was culture shock for me to see police in Europe and Japan carrying!
