thank you, we would just want to know if it's worth finding an owmer for, or if we just should sell them as "carnival" costumes :) that's the main issue with them, most of them are from Norway, but saw some from London "Moores and Failsworth" are some of the brands :) been removing some stains with just a wet cloth piece so hope they can get they're time to shine

Welcome to the FL, Dagga. It might be best if you leave the hats as they are and let any new owner deal with the cleaning. Alternatively, wait for folks here to come with advice on removing dirt spots etc.
You have us intrigued, so post photos asap.

As others have said, photos are needed. Photos of the style and shape of the hat. Photos of the liner (if any) inside the hat. Photos of markings on the leather sweatband. Photos of any tags or labels on the felt hidden behind the leather sweatband. We love seeing new hats and will be glad to help you.

Hi all. I have a question concerning hat sizes. What does it mean if a vintage Stetson's tag says only 3/8? Is it 7 3/8?? Thanks.

Almost certainly a 7 3/8. The bigger problem comes when the size tag is “5/8” or “3/4”. Those could be either 6 5/8 or 7 5/8 or 6 3/4 or 7 3/4. 99% of those hats size “3/4” are 6 3/4, but a size 6 3/8 is a rare very small hat size most likely found in a child’s hat. The only 6 3/8 hat I’ve come across lately was a Stetson Junior Cowboy and it was a child’s hat so I should have know it was not a 7 3/8.

If you fold the leather sweatband down there should be a paper label on the felt covered by the leather that will have the size. You might need to move the satin liner around to see it. Sometimes the size is also stamped on the reverse side of the leather sweatband. You can also measure the length of the head opening: if it’s around 8 inches long then it’s a 7 3/8. The length alone isn’t sufficient to tell the size, but it’s enough to differentiate a 6 3/8 from a 7 3/8.

Just so you’re aware, the market for that style of hat is pretty soft and hats in those smaller sizes rarely go for much. If you can post more detailed photos I’m sure someone here can tell you more about your hat(s).

those two show some promise. Lighting looks ok… if you could get the photos a bit larger would show some detail.

This seems to work on other sites, so I figure that it deserves a shot here.

If you've got a quick hat question and don't see a thread for it, just post it here. Whether the question is about cleaning, anatomy of a hat, brands, etc., this is the place.

Here's one to break the ice.

I know about JJ Hats Center in Manhattan and DelMonico Hatter in New Haven, CT.
I was wondering if you have any other recommendations of brick & mortar Fedora hat stores nearby in Westchester NY, CT, NY and NJ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
