I think the fit looks pretty darn good. I wouldn’t go up or down in size or tweak this one. if you need to wear another layer under it, a few minutes in the gym might not be a bad call.

Regarding the length, there‘s something about this style that “feels” shorter than it actually looks. I don't know if my brain doesn’t process the knit bottom correctly or what but I find myself pulling my jacket down (unnecessarily) when I’m wearing it and I’ve certainly got shorter riding jackets.

I think you found a great jacket!

I'll play devils advocate here: I think it's too small.

It looks like if you raise your hands up over your shoulders, the bottom of the jacket is going to catch on your belt when you lower them.

It also looks like it just fits your torso exactly meaning there is no room for a sweater. My G-1 does a better job keeping me warm than my A-2s do, but I still want a sweater underneath.

Also, with something that tight, anything you put in the pockets is gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

If a size 48 is the biggest they have in that model, then maybe I'd go with it. But for the amount of money you are gonna spend, I'd want something that I don't have any question about. The fact that you are asking us makes me believe there is some alarm going off in your head and you can't quite identify it. I might be wrong, but for that kind of money, I'd want to be sure.

When I find a jacket for me, I know it. I have no doubts.

Just playing devils advocate - it does not look bad at all, really. It simply looks like it could be better.

I think it looks good, as others have said, a little tight in the torso. Everything else looks pretty good honestly, length is good, sleeves, shoulders also look good. I wouldn't change the length personally, also if its comfortable to wear I think its good to go.

It would fit better if you slimmed up a little, however I would do that instead of getting the jacket first and trying to change my body to fit rather than first getting your body where you want it to be and the jackets come after. Speaking from personal experience where I bought jackets that are slightly tight and when I went on a diet, I sort of over-corrected and those slightly too small jackets are now too big and have to be sold. Really can't tell where you end up maintaining at, especially if you're making a permanent lifestyle change.

But everyone's motivations are different, if getting a nice jacket gets you motivated to fit into it, if it works it works, but I've seen too many people selling off jackets after their body shape changes/doesn't change that I let it be a cautionary tale for myself.

As it is now, I still think it looks quite good and probably looks perfect when unzipped which is how I wear my G-1 most of the time usually. I've seen G-1 in various fits, the one I like the most is the trim to body style of fit I've seen in historical photos. My G-1 is looser fitting which is nice and also comfortable but I don't think it looks as good as a trim G-1.

I am 6'1 with a 48 chest. This is a picture of me with an Eastman G1 in size 48. Do I need to lose a few pounds around the waist to make this fit better? Thinking of asking for it to be lengthened by an inch too. Shoulders, chest and sleeves are fine, with plenty of movement. Any advice, even "get on a treadmill chubby" is greatly appreciated.

The length of the jacket fits well, there is no need to change anything. The jacket fits snugly at the waist. The jacket is new, not worn out, you need to walk around in it for a while. After that, you can draw a conclusion.

Thank you all. Since that picture I have lost over a stone. For my health mainly but using the jacket as motivation.
Could you share new pictures then?

Looking at the ones you've posted, I would had said that's your best size without going custom, as I think the shoulders, length and sleeves are the right size but the body could use a bigger size (Edit: Maybe not? The back picture doesn't look as tight as it looks in the front). If you've lost weight and keep doing it, it can become a perfect fit but also potentially end up being too big

Fit check please.

I’ve been wondering ever since I got my Schott 641HH in size 38, whether or not a 36 would be a better fit. I recently got a 36, so here’s how they fit.

I have a few side by side pics of me wearing Schott 641HH in sizes 36 and 38, with a t-shirt and thermal-type long sleeve shirt underneath.

Which looks to be a better fit?

Thanks.

Size 36 looks good, but it's too tight at the waist. Therefore, a size 38 jacket will be more suitable for you.

Which feels more comfortable to wear?

That will be the better fit.

Forget the fit, that 38 has character for days! So cool.

You can pull off both but I prefer the 38. You did a good job of breaking it in as well - lots of character!

The 38 is better. The look of the leather alone. And I think it also looks a bit more comfortable.

I aim to get there again next week sometime to revise the fitting situation.

Thank you all for the advice, I really like the jacket and I suppose I am after reassurance before spending that amount of money.

Hey guys, I have recently sold an M filson jacket I found too large for my liking and replaced it with a brand new size small I managed to grab.
im sharing my experiences because not being able to try one it took some trial and error.
first of all filson enthusiasts seem to have different standards when it comes to fit. They seem to be the type of people who like to wear oversized pieces so I first followed their statments That this model short cruiser runs small by opposed to some other models of the brand.
being 5.10, 165lbs, with a not so wide chest 38 inch and not so broad shoulders 45cm, the M with a 45inch chest was too roomy and didn’t like the drapes it made : few photos there https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/filson-roughout-fit-check.116696/
the sleeves where also too long, it made only sense when I layer a lot but it’s more a piece I intend to wear surin mid season. I’ve already got a schott b3 for winters, or other wool jackets.
so I pulled the trigger and bought a s without trying. At some point I was considering mine tailored but chickened out that I wouldn’t be done right, it was a lot of tailoring To be done.

so here is my new filson worn above a heavy flannel shirt From iron heart.
i can closed it easily and while it’s stiffer than the M one, it feels there is more room for a mid weight hoody.
its more fitted, shorter, I feel true to what a trucker jacket is like.
allow me to share a few pics.
oh and I forgot the chest is 21 inch and a quarter. So on the paper it leaves 42.5 minus 38 = 4.5 inch of room to layer a bit. what do you think of the fit?
donno if this helps anyone. Cheers
