Haha! I'm scared of the Tangee rouge after the way the lipstick turned out on me! It was really disappointing, too, because I was soooo excited about getting it, I couldn't wait to try it on. I just assumed it would turn red or orange like most of the pictures I've seen. I was completely unprepared for day-glo pink.

I may try Tabu. I have quite a few lipsticks that are really nice red shades, but I liked the idea of the natural look Tangee.

I think I'm addicted to makeup...

I'm a big fan of Coty powder as well... but I love MAC's false eyelashes and lip glosses as well as pretty much anything made by Benefit. Their "Bad Gal" mascara is one of my all time favorites as well as their "Babe Cakes" cake eyeliner! I placed an order for some Besame samples after reading another thread. It sounds like great stuff.

not vintage but...

Have any of you seen the "quickie chronicals" line from Too Faced cosmetics? Its a little kit that contains 3 shadows, 3 glosses and a blush. I'm one of those people that gets suckered in by packaging too.... and these come in these little "books" that look like kinda like vintage pulp fiction novel covers. I thought they were cute, thats why I got em.

Yeah, me too. I almost spent my college tuition once on a full set of Benefit stuff. Which I like by the way, but I think I've grown out of it. They have some very 'retro' type products. I think they still have their website:

I really like their product. Last summer I bought some of their lip gloss and blush and really liked it a lot. I need to pick up another blush, because I'm out. They have fun names for their products too, another thing I get sucked in by. I have their blush "oy vey" and their lip gloss "bustier."

Its just fun stuff.

For those that use the Coty powder - does it feel heavy or cakey, or is pretty lightweight? I only wear Bare Escentuals or Burt's Bees, and I like my makeup to feel very natural. It isn't comfortable to wear heavy, pancake type makeup when it is 100 outside! It is so inexpensive I'm definitely going to try some.

Does anyone use Coty as a body powder? I want to get some for after baths (the translucent powder of course) - I think I would prefer it to the plain ol' baby powder.

I don't find it heavy at all. I like using a loose powder much better than a pressed because it is lighter.

I have never done this and I don't think I would want to. It somehow desn't feel like a powder I would want to put all over my body.[huh]
Why not buy a nice perfumed powder if you want something nicer than baby powder?

Bourjois

I really like Bourjois cosmetics. The colours are nice and vivid, and the packaging is really cute and stylish. The whole thing is basically very chic and French! Someone mentioned in an earlier post that they created the first powder blush in 1863 or something - this colour was Cendres de Roses Brun, and was apparently used by Sarah Bernhard. The formula hasn't changed at all, but it's a pity they didn't retain the original packaging. The history section on their site tells you about the beginnings of the company, but nothing from the Golden Era, so I'm going to do a bit of research on this. Their Matte Lovely foundation is also great for that period base. I also read somewhere that their products are made in the same factory as Chanel, which would explain why their loose powder smells vaguely of No. 5...

So there you go: Chanel at high-street prices! Sorry for the long post.

P.S Must try that Coty powder.

In the 40s my Grandmother used Yardley Lavender Powder, which is still in production as far as I know (I'm sure I remember seeing some in her bathroom last week). The packaging hasn't changed much either, and I think it also comes in Rose...

Well, I have taken the advice of the Besame cosmetics "teacher" and packed on translucent powder to set my face and my lips, then used a large brush to brush off the extra, and wow, it really does make a difference. My lipstick has been staying on forever (the powder makes it matte of course) and my skin stays matte much longer. Of course I used Coty, Besame is too expensive to use with wild abandon.

I might put the Coty on my decolletage, but I think a perfumed body powder is a great idea post-bath. I love the benefit scent Maybe Baby and Prada's new scent, I'll look into that. So many body powders these days have glitter in them!

Hate that.

I like MAC. I don't wear a lot of makeup now that I'm back in radioland, but when I am on TV or want to look more spotless I make myself up. MAC is a new thing for me, but I have poor skin and many scars to cover. When I poked around everyone at the makeup counter pointed me to MAC. I have to say it works well. Their TECH foundation and powder covers fairly well and holds up over time. As for lipstick, eyes, etc I usually go for Max Factor.

I do love these new cute "retro" makeup kits that I'm seeing around. I find them at TJ Maxx sometimes.

Speaking of the Yardley Rose scent, has anyone smelled it? Does it smell nice?

I‚Äôve been looking for years for a rose scent similar to what my Great Grandmother wore. It was subtle and smelled like maybe she wore a lotion or powder rather than a mist, and it didn‚Äôt have that chemical smell that many perfumes have.

If my memory serves me well, I believe a bottle of Anna Sui liquid foundation I bought several years ago smelled like that, but the smell faded as soon as I put it on my face. Plus, the makeup had really poor coverage.

Speaking of chemical smells, what hairspray do you ladies use? Sometimes I feel like I overwhelm the poor people on the bus in the morning with my freshly sprayed hairspray. As the day goes on it fades, but I hate smelling like that in the morning. I know my Grandma and Great Grandma plastered their hair with the stuff, but I don‚Äôt remember them or their bathrooms smelling like it.

Tangee Red Lipsticks

Has anyone else seen that Vermont Country Store has reintroduced Tangee's red lipsticks. They have three different shades that are supposed to be the same as they were fifty of so years ago. I haven't ordered them yet, but I plan to. Has anyone else tried them?
