Wasn't aware of the marque before, but the fine quality fur felt was obvious and I loved the high crown and 2.75 inch brim. Best of all, wife approved.

Welcome and GREAT FIND. This would be a post Stetson acquisition of Mallory (1946) and would date late 40's early 50's looking at it...looks in really good shape too!

yeah, I wasn't sure about the date, as I thought I had seen elsewhere on the site here that the 1823 date on Mallory hats was the pre-Stetson label and 1817 was post.

It really is in super shape with only a couple tiny flea bites that aren't really noticeable unless you inspect it.

This hat is marked with the "1823" designation. It is pre-Stetson buyout.

I figured it was a pretty vintage one from how tall it was and with a very wide brim..!

I lifted the sweatband to take another detail pic..

The 6” crown an 2 3/4” brim is a favorite. Quite the score in a larger size! Good find!

My Mallory I just purchased. 2 3/4 brim, approx 5 1/2 open crown. Very nice felt on this OPS era hat. Love it.

Here are some pictures of the Dallas. Crown is 4 1/2” with current bash. Brim is 2 3/4” and has a dusty rose/salmon color binding. Ribbon treatment is 3/8”.

It has the 1823 pre-Stetson liner. So I’m thinking this is 40s?

Don’t know what the “D” equates to depth wise. When I measure, Open is 5 3/4”.

It had four pieces of electrical tape holding the liner in place. Those are gone now.

That's a beauty Bill. I have found so many different letters for depth, it's becoming confusing.

Hi Guys...I recently posted in the "New Member" forum that I was gifted some hats from my brother-in-law who didn't use them any more. This one is a Mallory. Straw, I guess. Are any of you familiar with this model? Looks like 60's to me...like something my dad would wear. Back then.

Its a 7 and my noggin is closer to 7 1/4. Its a shame to have come across these cool hats and can't use them. Or could this be stretched enough to make it work for me?

Nice looking Milan. To get it to 7 1/4 you would have to strip it, reblock it, and put on a new sweatband and ribbon. You’d also lose either brim width or crown height. My advice is to leave it as is and find someone who is a size 7.

Stretching is always a gamble and best reserved for when a hat sort of fits, but the fit is just a bit too tight. At least that’s been my experience.

That's a fine looking hat and a great find. I have scoured many antiques malls and vintage stores and have yet to find anything impressive. You are in my city and the same size! Where haven't I looked???
