Stetson gets away with using low quality components and monofilament “thread” because 95% of their clients don’t care and are happy with what they get. “Every country gets the government it deserves,” and “we” also get the quality we deserve. If a large number of Stetson’s customers demanded better we’d get it. We live in a disposable world of particle board furniture and corner cutting everywhere. Sad, isn’t it?

Your reworking of that hat is quite impressive. It looks as though we should be looking for you in The Conversion Corral! Your bow work is very nice! If you ever want better quality leather sweatbands send me a PM.

Thank you, Brent. And I fully agree with your comments on one of the causes of the degradation of our society. That’s one of the reasons I no longer support many other organizations and products.
Though, sometimes limited funds may cause me to buy cheap products on my own projects, Stetson, or The Hat Co. rather, shouldn’t ever be allowed to use that as an excuse.

Now that I know, or remember, rather, I’ll go to the conversion thread next time....if ever there is one.
Its especially hard when the quality of the material is inferior and won’t yield to high intentions and expectations. I’ll be sending you a PM. Though, I hope to never do another conversion or sweatband...yet... I know I will. Just next time the conversion will be done starting with a soft, quality vintage cowpoke hat. I enjoy doing bows and hat bands. Those seem to be easy enough.
I won’t use 100% polyester grosgrain ever again. Even on crappy modern hard shell westerns. I certainly wouldn’t use it on any paying customer’s hat, which is a ball that I hope never gets rolling. don’t have the time , or the patience for it, nevertheless, I like being capable of doing it for for myself or close family and friends.

I think you did a great job with the campaign bow. I’ve been thinking of attempting one. Did you find any resources that you used or did you just go for it?

Just went for it, Mr. Williams. And thanks!
I used one of my Open Roads for reference. The bow is quite similar. The only difference is the folded twist of the bow’s end. If you like, I’ll talk more about it on the conversion thread, once I get there.
Though If I figured it out , I’m sure you can!

Just got home from seeing Star Wars at our local hometown theater, the Pix. It is good to know that the cash cow was not totally slaughtered. Enjoyed it very much, left a number of questions (which Patty is searching at this moment), and felt that it met all my Star Wars geek needs. Wore my Black Sheep Hat Works bespoke fedora and a double breasted trench coat. My wonderful in-laws gifted me the new gloves for Christmas. Patty said they didn't go too well with the outfit, thoughts?

Equa Andino Panama dressed up in Miami Dolphins colors for the last game of the season against New England. Fun to see the Dolphins get the win at Foxboro and cost the Patriots a first round bye! And they will ask... was that meaningless win worth dropping a few spots in the draft?? OF COURSE IT WAS!

Thank you. I just had to get out of the house. Sitting, laying around all day is driving me nuts, and the steroids they have me on make even more nervous and jittery on top of it all.

And I really wanted to wear the hat today, so....

I would have to get out to wear that hat too !! I need to get me a VS but I heard Art was retiring. Did he just make that for you or did you get it second hand ?

I know what you mean about the Steroids. I hate being on those things. Plus makes me hungry all the time....

Hope you can get off all that stuff soon.

I sent him (AF/VS) an email a few months back and never got a response. That led me to believe he was already retired or pretty close.

Don't quote me on this, but I heard Gibson is just as good. I know he's working on a hat of mine and he seems like a really nice gent.

I had forgotten how sharp a color oxblood is. Fantastic, and glad you’re back up and in the game!

I love Oxblood. Goes great with gray, black or navy slacks or suits.

I found an old pair of Allen Edmonds Park Avenues for cheap because they were really scuffled up, but perfect soles and insides. I totally stripped them down to the natural calf skin and found the perfect match dye to Allen Edmond’s Oxblood. After dyeing and lots of polish and wax, they match the AE Oxblood belt pretty good.

Now I just need a hat. Been looking for one, but no luck yet.
