What substance or process would one use to clean a hat. Primarily to get salt/sweat stains out?
It will be reblocked. I've been experimenting with that already, but I don't know how to really clean the hat.
Wierd question prompted by something on another board I'm on. The proposition was that a hat will quickly stretch out of shape without a band around it (at this point, it has not been established whether he meant a ribbon/band on the outside, or the leather sweatband, but the general discussion...
Well, I got my Hatpeople cap the other day. I like it. This one is the "deep" cut, which is trimmer and not nearly as floppy as the "standard" full cut, which is just what I wanted. This one looks more like the golf caps shown in the 1897 Sears Catalog.
This one is a herringbone wool...
Ok, when my favorite hat gets wet, it smells like a wet dog. Well, not all that bad, but I can sure detect it. I guess considering that it is made of animal hair...
anybody else? What can you do about it, if anything?
Anybody have the new Heritage grade Federation IV? And if so, naturally, I want to see them! ;)
Is the felt the same as the previous "Deluxe" felt? Oh, and is the color better than the previous Federation dark gray-brown?
Thinkin' about getting one. As if I need another hat.
I want to recommend my favorite jeans. For those of you who would like a 40's/'50's western style blue jean for daily wear, give Buddy's Jeans a try. They make a "Cowboy cut" jean, with a bellybutton-high rise. They are fairly snug in the pocket/seat area, as jeans of this style should be...
Well, I've had the new Adventurebilt for several days. It fits me very well. It had too much "turn" for me to wear, so I moved the pinch over some, and reshaped the front dents. Better. The floppy, crooked brim is going to take some getting used to...
I decided to go ahead and wear it as...
I just got my very 50's style jacket. It's by Scully/Rangewear. Brownish Carhartt-type color (they also come in black, but no blue denim). This is the style of jacket you will see on so many stars of Western movies from the '50's. Glenn Ford, Jimmy Stuart, etc.
When I ordered the jacket...
I'm somebody now!
Got the Campdraft today from everythingaustralian. Only took about a month and a half to come in, instead of the approximated 3 months.
It's the Taupe fawn or whatever they call it. It's pretty much the same as my Tawny fawn Federation, though ever-so-slightly darker...
Here's the Bailey 5x Beaver western "cattleman" hat I got off ebay. Came just today. The hat is virtually unworn, and seems VERY well made. The sweat is a nice, thick, soft leather. The felt is thick, dense, and stiff (the way I like it). Here it is as it came to me:
Here it is...
Just got this "5X Beaver" hat by Bailey off ebay. I see great things in it's future.... I think it shall be my entry application for both the "Diamond authority" and the "Brotherhood of the Thin Ribbon"... ;)
This one had been up at least twice with no bidders. I was the only one...
Here's photos of the finished Resistol Chestnut colored western hat. I just got my package from Hats by Leko ( www.hatsupply.com ), which is one of ONLY TWO suppliers I have found, after hours of searching the internet, that will sell you rayon/cotton grosgrain "millinery" ribbon. Got about...
Well, I got my ebay hats today. Here's the first one. A Stetson "4X Beaver". With the horse drinking from the cowboy's hat printed on the liner crown. I assume probably from the '70's????? It's a sort of light gray with an ever-so-slight tan tint. By golly, I actually like the telescope...
I believe it's a Squatter. Not nearly as tall as a Bushman. Not as nicely shaped as the Bushman he used to wear I don't think. At least he has a band on this one though! :)
I watched it. It was surprisingly not horrible! Rather enjoyable, actually, though it bugged me that Swayze kept carrying a bandoleer for a gun that he wasn't carrying for at least the last 2/3rds of the movie.... It looked sexy, though, so I guess that's what mattered!
The hat looked...
Here's a good one....
Does anyone make a 40's-50's style denim jacket, the kind with the single cinch in the center back? Better yet, do they make tall sizes (fat chance)?
Is there an equivalent website for Western/19th century hats? Yes, I know, nothing is equal to the Fedora Lounge!
Anywhere where western hats are discussed?
I have begun getting into them. While I don't think I could ever see myself wearing some of the really huge sombreros, the ones...
AAAGH! I found out about a week or so ago from everythingaustralian that Akubra has just decided to make the Campdraft (in all colors) a non-regularly-stocked item, and I would have to wait until about January for my taupe Campdraft!!! :eusa_doh: Ah, well... I've got my favorite Squatter to...
I just now ordered an Akubra Campdraft in the taupe fawn color from everythingaustralian. Total including shipping was $95 and change. I figure I'll get it within a couple of weeks.
I "needed" it, you see....
Just how many 18th century people are here on the Lounge? Reenactors, flintlock shooters, etc. I know of 3 or 4 others already.
How many of us take off our cocked hats, only to then put on a fedora?
:D
