Do we have any WWII Reenactors who do a Naval impression? I'm supposed to be "in character" as one of Halsey's subordinate admirals for an event this summer, and I'm stuck for ideas about where to get the cap.
I should note that I'm going "dirty shirt" khaki as favored by WestPac officers...
I'm guessing the suits Thomas Gibson's outfitted with as SSA Aaron Hotchner on Criminal Minds are a bit more modern than FL's usual focus, but I figured I'd look to the sharpest-eyed sartorial specialists I know for insight. Other than "conservative, Generic Fed, probably an off-the-rack" what...
... June 4, 1942: the Battle of Midway--turning point of the Pacific War, where at great cost to American carrier aviators the Imperial Japanese Navy's primary offensive arm was all but obliterated, particularly the carriers and pilots of the Pearl Harbor raid.
Let us remember all who gave...
Projected landfall near Eastport later today.
LizziaMaine, PSG, all you other Maine-iacs, please be careful out there! You're all in my thoughts and prayers for the duration.
...and other transportation enthusiasts. Don't know if somebody's already posted this before, but I've been finding "back-issue" USGS maps most useful in my efforts to trace the old New York Central mainlines, and they're kinda interesting to anyone who's into seeing how towns and cities develop...
I'm running some WWII miniatures-gaming scenarios over Memorial Day weekend, and figured it'd ratchet up the realism some if the players have someone (i.e. Scenario Administration, namely me) portraying "Higher Headquarters" wanting updates and urging them forward.
Problem: I need some ideas...
Sartorial experts of the Lounge, I did a quick search on this, but struck out.
In certain situations, a person may find it to their advantage to have a certain, shall we say, "faintly ominous" look to them, frequently lent by certain cuts of dark suit--I know black and with a little extra...
Several Loungers have identified themselves as current or former gamers at various points, and the question is: what's your game?
I'll spearhead...
Real-Time Strategy/Tactics
StarCraft, with Brood War expansion
Command & Conquer, with The Covert Operations expansion
C&C: Tiberian Sun...
OK, guys, the gauntlet's been thrown down. How would a calendar featuring the Ladies of the Lounge go over, and who would be the top picks? Daily, weekly, or monthly photo? And who for what month?
In case any of the ladies read this, I warned ya...:D
Okay, how do you apply rank insignia without wrecking the epaulet? Just pin 'em straight through and to heck with the resulting holes, or clip the pinpoints and glue 'em on, or what?
Nineteen inches of rainfall overnight? Up here around Seattle, that's no big deal, but down there...

ITG, Sunny, all you DFW Metroplex Loungers, please be careful out there!
And all of us outside the area, let's keep our...

Well, here we are at "that" day of the year again, where we all give thanks to the ladies without whom none of us would be anything.
So, for all the mothers, would-be mothers, and "mothers-at-heart" among the ladies of the Lounge, this one's for y'all.
Happy Mother's Day! *hoisting Dr Pepper*
If anyone here has ever had an Avirex "MacArthur" and an original side-by-side, or seen the original "Mac A-2" in Norfolk, what kinds of differences were there? I know the Mac version was customized somehow beyond name-panel, but haven't been able to find any details about how.
With how so many FL'ers are either foodies or love to cook, I was just thinking that, with the idea about adding a recipes section discussed briefly a ways back, I should start a poll about the idea.
So, what do y'all think?
Okay, folks, by popular demand, I'm opening up the discussion on of of the most colorful, controversial military icons of the Golden Age. I'll weigh in with my own research and opinions later, after a few of you've had your say.
Because of the controversial nature of this subject, I do...
