Are these Montecristis?

I just bought a couple of vintage Panamas on Ebay. I'm certainly no expert, but the weave looks fairly tight and I think they must be Montecristis. The seller (who has a good reputation - 100% positive feedback) said they are from the 40s and have been in their original hat box for a very long time. The label on the band says "Excellent Quality * Knox, New York * Genuine Panama" and the store name, "Philmour, Inc., Dumont, N.J." They were bought by a collector of vintage men's and women's clothing and apparently were never worn.

What do you guys think?

The pictures are not all that great but I did see the auction. They look like two cuencas to me. I have a Mallory and May Company cuencas from the forties and they look about the same to me. The weave is not quite right to be a Montecristi. I could be wrong though and I certainly defer to anything PanamaBob would say about them. ;)

Regards to all,

J

They look like Cuenza to me. I think you will just have to wait till you get them or ask the seller to send you some close up pictures. Have hin lay a dime or cloth tape on the side of the crown. Then we can get a weave count for you.I would say one is a Cuenca and the other one the pictures are not clear enough. I like the double box. Way Cool.

The worse case is back on Ebay :) Try to get the seller to email you better pictures ok!
