Hi, I’m just looking for a little help here. I’m not sure if this is the appropriate thread or not but hopefully so. I’ve recently purchased a hat at an auction. It’s in a Knox hard carrying case and the hat says it’s a Knox One Hundred. I bought it without seeing it and it’s a little to small for me. I’m trying to find out what it may be worth since I can’t wear it and also where I can possibly have it cleaned up a bit. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to The Lounge!

Any chance of photos? Depending on condition and style/dimensions it could be worth a fair bit. It’s far too small for me so I don’t have a horse in the race, but if it’s of a popular style you’ll get a lot of interest.

You might look at some of Scala's offerings. I picked up a new one on eBay for around $25 a couple of years ago.

I dig it. Sold out in a medium though, but available in large.

I don't know much about sizing, but I do know that i'm between sizes.

Try Panama Hat Mall. Just went there, clicked on the hats for men tab and saw one in a similar color for 60 bucks.
At 22 3/8" you'd be around a size 7 1/8.
Be careful. The "hat look" can grow on you and turn quickly into a full blown obsession...look at some of the folks here...
Excellent link, thank you.

This one looks nice, though not 100% the colour I was looking for.

Do I order size 58? (22 5/8")?
JJ Hat Center has many straw hats on sale for 40% off the prices listed:

I like this one too, but the feather is tacky to me. Is that usually removeable?

I also like the slightly assymetrical bent look of some hats. What should I look for in regards to this for terminology?

All feathers that I’ve seen have been easily removed. I don’t know of any current production hats that are asymmetrical, but you can shape and reshape your hat to your preference.

JJ has over 100 straw hats for sale so do look through them all for those close to what you’re looking for.

When you are an in between size and buying new, going for the larger size is the better option. Best to pad the sweatband a little to make it fit than stretch it if there is a choice, IMO.

I like this one too.

"This woven seagrass straw is not as firm as hard felt styles therefore runs slightly large. We suggest if you are in between sizes to size down."

A medium is 21 7/8" - 22 1/4", a large is 22 5/8" - 23".

My head is 22.5".

So go with a medium?

There’s no universal standard in sizing. Below is one of several charts giving size conversions.

I'd be interested in that one myself!

Hey, thanks! It’s 7 1/4

7 1/4? hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm. :) And welcome to the Lounge. Sorry I can't answer your question but I'm sure somebody here will give you an idea. If you end up selling it I'm sure some of us here at the Lounge would be interested. I can think of one certain fellow in particular who is fond of anything 100. :)

Moehawk wants me to be evidence pf obsession, I suspect.
I am 7 1/8 @ 22 1/2 (+). You can probably wear quite a few hats marked size 7. That's good news if you shop vintage. My head was big 75 years ago, but medium today. Anyone with a smaller one has a lot to choose from.
As much as I admire larger brims, realistically a 2 1/2" probably best matches my face in summer straw and 2 1/4" in felt.

Just curious, what happened to @splintercellsz? I don't visit here as often as I once did, but I sure miss his posts of his fine hats and his period clothing. I hope he's doing okay.

He still stops by from time to time. I think he started a new job that might have different demands on his time. We all look forward to his posts.
