Moss growing on hats?
Just received a well-used, older Akubra Cattleman - with just enough "character".
It took a bit less than one season to arrive from Australia (around the world in 80 days, halfway around in 82?) on a very slow boat.
Anyway, it has patches of bright green in various places. Looks just like moss or lichen (the green algae part anyway). Doesn't sponge or brush off - it's well into the felt and goes right through to the other side at some locations. There's no whitish splotches at all, the kind you'd associate with mold. Just bright green like pond scum.
Yeah, I know Lysol will off any living being, and sunlight will probably help unless it feeds off photosynthesis, but have any of you encountered the like and do you have any suggestions for getting it out?
If not, it's OK and I'll just consider it natural camouflage. Since some will pay more for a moss-green Akubra, maybe I should just leave it outdoors and encourage it to grow?

I'd argue that lighter grays are far more versatile. You can wear gray with anything - literally because it has no color to clash. Darker grays don't always provide the contrast you're looking for, and thereby may not be as versatile.
In any case, I own both colors (browns/grays, lights and darks) and can match gray to nearly anything I wear.
Brown + Black? Or Brown + Navy? Brown + Charcoal? Those are staple colors in suiting, along with Gray itself. Frankly, I think gray goes with each of those better than brown. [huh]

I agree that the light grays are more versitile than dark brown. Whether dark brown or black would depend upon what is in the wardrobe.
But for pure versitility, I'll grab Silver Belly every time.

I don't believe there really is a single color to go with all colors of clothing....
.... and much would depend on WHAT type of clothing you wear more of. For example, do you wear Shirt/Tie dress more than casual and if so, what is the predominate color range of these clothes. If you were wearing jeans and boots and wore a Western hat, a Silver Belly color works well with ALL of that look! As for the Fedora and what to wear with that style ( which will include "dress" styles) generally speaking something in the WIDE ranging Brown shades ( everything from the Fawns ie. Tans, to the Dark Browns with the Green Browns ie Olive etc) would work well IMHO. If you are more of a Black wearer, the Grey's work and Black, though if you go for a wide brim Black Fedora and a Black suit and your'e not a Rabbi, you will be mistaken for one !! ( especially if you live in NYC :eusa_doh: )

Open question - ribbon advice needed
I'm considering a Christys Adventurer in their Elm (green) color. The stock 1 1/2" ribbon is a dark green, but I can request other colors - navy, brown, or black. What do you think would look better, the stock green or brown? I don't know the shade of brown they'd use but I imagine it would be dark. I'm leaning toward brown; I don't think navy or black would work at all. Your thoughts?

Yes but you need to hit the "Go Advanced" tab(lower right)-- then the "Preview Post" tab appears at the lower right below the new window as before.
