Yes, my new Cal leather Cafe Racer is made of rubber or some other man made material! I had no idea they did that. I've seen this done before just didn't think about it in this situation. Any Cal leather experts got a comment on that? Has nice Talon zippers, looks to be early 60s. I will post some pictures later. I conditioned it and had to wipe off all the conditioner because it wouldn't absorb!

Am I the only one that didn't know? Learn something everyday

Night and day difference, which cleaner and conditioner did you use? I usually use Pecards or Dr. Jackson’s Hide Rejuvenator but always looking for new stuff.

I cleaned with lexol, soap, water. Putt vaseline on, which did not absorb, wiped it off and got this shine. The only damage is on the collar.

I'm beginning to like it. I bought it to see a Cal leather CR. I don't see many. I knew it was too small, but it wasn't much money.

It arrived very dull and dirty. Next time I will use some tire shine! Did give it a nice shine

It really cleaned up good!

Whatever it's made from, it does look like leather in the photos. Close up and in person I'm sure it must be another story, although it still managed to fool you while you were trying to condition it -- and I'm sure you're not an easy guy to fool!

It looks phenomenal now. How comfortable is it to wear? Is it a solid rubber or is it a coated fabric? Very curious. I can't imagine it's comfortable or breathes...

Vaseline will probably cause it to crack. You probably need a vinyl restorer /preserver spray with a plasticizer, like Armor All. A good dashboard rejuvenating product will do.
