I recently bought a Vanson Oxford in Octagon leather, size 40. What a beautiful color, but the jacket is about 1 inch larger in the pit to pit and hem than stated, so the fit is a little more loose or "relaxed" than I was expecting. The sleeves were accurate and a bit too long for me. I called Vanson and they can shorten the sleeve for me. They said they can take in the pit to pit and hem as well but that is quite an involved process that involves the sleeve attachment too. Total cost would be $370. If I did the sleeve only, it'll be about $160 for both sleeves.

On one hand I can add a streamliner to the jacket to fill it out and wear it on colder days, or just wear it as is.....a little loose. The other option is too have Vanson alter it, which means I run the risk that it may not turn out as I would like and then I would have burned my bridges.

Any thoughts on the fit? Any thoughts on if I should wear as is or alter? And if alter, then just the sleeves or the pit to pit and hem as well?

Anyone have any experience with Vanson's Streamliner? I've never seen one in person.

Pictures

The jacket feels a lot looser than the pictures seem to suggest.

My inclination would be to shorten the sleeves but no additional alterations and wear it as is. From what I read, the Streamliner does add a lot of insulation to the jacket and it is attached by buttons in the jacket but the sleeves of the Streamliner has no attachments to the jacket sleeves. This makes me wonder how easy it would be to take off the jacket and have the Streamliner sleeves come out of the Jacket's sleeve.

I also tried tightening up the side buckles one hole on each side but then the leather bunches up and does not look as good .

Don't rush to do anything with the jacket. Experiment with putting something on under your jacket and wearing it for a while.

Try to zip up the sleeves.

Unfortunately the cut in combination with the length does not work for your body shape.
It's a \/ jacket on a /\ body. Relatively.
The tight bottom hem pushes the jacket up and creates a () side view, which is nowhere near flattering.
I'd move this jacket along and try to get a shorter one if you want to retain a more \/ shape or a more hourglass shaped one with a widening bottom hem to get a )( look or something like a car coat for a more straight down look.

@dinhnguyen57
I would DEFINITELY not touch the lengt of the sleeves. Zip them up and they will look great after some time as the sleeves bend and crease confirming to your shape and increasing mobility further than what you would get by shortening them. If you don't want to zip up the sleeves then I don't understand why would you get a zip sleeve jacket.
I would also not reduce the width of the jacket, looks fine as is. Especially the pits/chest. Waist (not bottom hem) is another story, depending on your body shape..
I find these models too long so I would considering getting the body length reduced. Then you can also reduce the hem width.

Here's my short story about getting essentially the same jacket modified for my needs:

As far as whether it is worth modifying for me it depends on how much you paid for it, how much you like it and what are you alternatives. If you bought it full price then modifying it seems less attractive. I bought mine very cheaply from Japan so modifying made a lot of sense, especially considering that there's no way I'd ever find a shorter stock one - Vanson just makes these too long for my taste.

when I zip the sleeves, it definitely “shortens” the sleeves and put them at the right length but it’s not that flexible so it tries to push down and puts a lot of pressure on my wrists. It’s uncomfortable enough that I would not want to wear it for any length of time. My gut feeling is it will not really crease and shorten enough over time AND relieve that pressure off my wrist enough to be satisfactory.

The other alternative, as mentioned, is to sell it. I bought it through this forum so maybe I can sell it here too.

thank you for all the input.

i saw Tartansolf’s altered jacket and that was what got me thinking about altering the jacket

Couple of questions: 1) what are your body measurements if you don’t mind me asking? Height, waist, shoulders and chest. 2) what are those awesome leather jeans?!

I'm 172cm tall and 57-60kg depending on the period. ~92cm or ~36" inhaled chest, don't remember the waist and shoulders. For a nicely form fitting jacket I go for 42-44cm shoulder width, 49-51cm pits, 42-44cm waist and 44-46cm bottom hem (depending on the length of the jacket).
The leather pants are the "El Paso" model from Vanson leathers. Rather easy to find them used in JP for 50-150eur, that's how I got mine and then got them tailored (slimmed down at the knees) with my local leather tailor.

The jacket and trousers look brilliant on your frame. I need to find me some of those trousers!

Hey everyone! I have two of the same Schott p234 (lamb skin), both size Small, but one is slightly more fitting in the shoulders, torso, length and sleeves. This is my first cafe racer so I’m not really sure how it’s supposed to fit.

Which looks best?

- Navy button down is the slightly looser fit

- White t-shirt is the more more fitted

They’re both great, just not sure which one to keep.

It's hard to tell from the photos. The one with the white T-shirt seems to be a little shorter, which suits the style of the jacket better. But actually, the two look more or less identical.
The same shirt and jacket closed would probably be more representative.

Hi all! Some of you might have seen a post about this on r/leatherjacket, but I'd also like to ask for your guys' opinion on the fit of the two used Aero Leather jackets I recently got.

My measurements:
Chest: 112-113cm

50s Halfbelt in CXL Steerhide
Size 44 - I might have been able to get away with a 42 for a more fitted look.

Zip Sleeve Highwayman
Size 42

I find it hard to get a leather jacket that fits me without looking like a trash bag.

The sleeve of the black jacket is too long. The brown jacket fits perfectly.

More than any other part of a jacket sleeve length is probably the one area where ideal fit is all very much just down to personal opinion.
What one person might think is the perfect length, another would say it’s too short, while someone else thinks it’s too long.
The sleeves of the black jacket are possibly marginal but they’re not obviously too long and I would wear that jacket as is. Also, zipped cuffs are often found on motorcycle jackets and these tend to have longer sleeves to allow for extending the arms to the bike handlebars.

From the photos it looks as if the cuff on the left sleeve isn’t fully zipped and this might be allowing the sleeve to sit slightly lower on the hand. Try fastening it fully as this might help the cuff to be tighter and so end up a little higher.

am I crazy for considering selling this RC Herc for a MF Campus jacket? I really thought I’d found my grail jacket last year, with this one. The leather is beautiful, the Herc design is a classic and the fit is great, standing in a tshirt.

It does feel a tad tight when driving and lifting my arms. The fit is a more modern Japanese style - slim shoulders and chest, which works for me but may not be that flattering. The length is good for untucked t-shirts but as you can see it looks long on me with high waisted jeans and a tucked shirt.

I personally think that it looks great and is a flattering fit on you. But in my mind, the Hercules is also not a particular short jacket so the length doesn't bother me personally here. I also think the fit looks so spot on that it might be hard to replicate it even when going custom should you ever want to go back to a slightly longer style.
Do you have enough shorter/cropped jackets already? I personally tend to want what I don't have which is a bad foundation for decision-making.

(If the Jacket is my size, then it looks very terrible on you of course and you should sell it for cheap because who would want it anyway)
