here are some Photos of another hat that depp wears.

it looks a lot like a stetson, the thin ribbon around it to, with the button..

this is getting more difficult for me to decide...

i could get the Bogart hat..

i was recommended to buy it this way from the sales person on the website since i can customize it..

"I would choose a 2-1/2 inch bound edge snap
brim (which is standard) with a 19 ligne hat ribbon in order for it to look
like the hat Depp is wearing. It is a “C” crown which this
hat comes in. I would choose less stiff so it’s easier for you to
shape, color choices are up to you."

but it doesnt look like its tall enough...heres another bogart hat..

I keep thinking that there trying to push one on me like i cant tell the difference.

Genuine fur felt with a narrow band and bound edge. Available with an open crown or can be shaped as pictured. 2 1/2 brim size.

this hat looks a lot like the brown hat hes wearing. It has the height. the shape, and the thin ribbon around it with the button.

I wanted to get this hat..the Selentino Alpha it had the look of Depps hat the side button, everything..

but the salesman on the website said,

" No, the alpha is a long hair fedor style hat. This one he is
wearing is the duce and a
quarter fedora with a preshape/ teardrop crown. The brim is turned down
....what we
call acey-dusey ( Al Copone style )."


so another salesman on a different hat site pointing me to buy an Al Copone hat..

and now that i hit 15 posts i need to wait so i can contact the other people who were looking for this hat and show them what i found and if they have more info to add to it.

heres the bushman hat..

The Bushman is a classic Australian stockman's hat, worn in the outback since before 1900. It is related to the old snap brim Fedora, and was the first hat imported by Akubra from England. It was also the first hat made by Akubra when they started manufacturing in the early 1900s. It was one of the first hats we sold in the 1960s, and it continues to be appreciated both in Australia and America for its simple, straightforward style, and its practical comfort.

The Bushman is made in Akubra's Imperial Quality pure fur felt, fully lined, with chin strap hooks. The brim is 3-1/4 inches wide, bound edge. The brim snaps down in front to better shade the eyes. It is supplied with a half inch ribbon band. The color is Nullarbor Tan (a dark beige), named after the great Nullarbor Plain of Western Australia. 5-1/2 inch open crown. Reeded roan leather sweatband. Made in Australia.

The Squatter Hat

The Squatter is a classic Australian town and country hat. The brim is 3 inches wide, bound edge, and may be worn snapped down in front or as a drop brim down all around. Imperial Quality pure fur felt, 1-1/4 inch ribbon band, fully lined, with chin strap hooks set inside the crown for attachment of a chin strap. 5-1/4 inch open crown. Reeded roan leather sweatband. Made in Australia.

The Squatter takes its name from the men who took up large blocks of pastoral land in the outback under government license when Australia was first settled. These large landowners were often the rich and influential men of the district and the Squatter, made by Akubra, reflects a little of this life style.

whats good about this hat is that its an Open Crown Hat...


"The Akubras with an open crown, such as the Squatter, allow you to put your own personal bash or crease in the crown. A hat maker would use steam to make the shape permanent but steam may also shrink the felt. The better way for those who are not hat makers is to put in a preliminary shape, then when the hat is damp from the rain adjust it to the desired final shape and let it dry. This not only avoids shrinkage problems, but also lets you try out the preliminary shape and change it if needed.

The tradional bash for the Squatter is the center crease, a dent on the top from front to rear. The dent is usually best made the same height in the front as in the rear. A common addition to this bash is a pair of small dents at the sides near the front".

I'm sure that the salesmen are being as helpful as possible, no surprise there since it's their job to sell hats. I have a few that I purchased new and they are nice but can't really compare with any of my vintage ones as far as quality look and feel go.
Another thing is most vintage hats, in great condition, are less expensive than new hats.

Treat yourself to a vintage hat, rather than a new one. I'm sure that you can find something in this style since it is so common. The reason that the hat looks good on Johnny Depp, holes and all, is because it's a vintage hat and of course it's Depp wearing it. Since you can't be the one and only Depp, be the one and only Door and find one that fits your style. You won't be sorry that you did.

Id love to have a vintage hat, id really rather own that. i dont really like new things specially new hats.
i love old curvy top hats, never was able to get one in my size. and my new appreciation of the fedora hats, i never really cared much for em till i saw the vintage ones.
i live in Long Island, so hopefully i can find a vintage hat shop somewhere in the city. But id need a hat thats over 22 1/2 inches to fit my head.

No problem finding one in that size( 71/8 to 7 1/4, 57 to 58 cm) my friend. Long Island...You should be able to ask a few folks in vintage clothing shops or pawn shops where the nearest friendly vintage hat dealer is. I'm also sure that there are several people here on the FL that live up that way and would be glad to provide some local information.

Don't forget that there are also plenty of auction sites, charity store such as Goodwill and Salvation Army stores that can be a great source of fine hats. Finding The Hat that you love the most is truly an adventure well worth taking.

i really want to try on some hats see how i like the fit of them..

i really dont like fedora hats you cant shape. how there so stiff..thats why i never liked these kinds of hats till i saw depps. its looked soft and i could shape it to how i like it..

i have to find some vintage hat shops..theres one in NYC i found im not sure if there vintage there email isnt working.

What you need to do is visit your local hat store, if nothing else but to see if that style you are looking for will suit "Your Style". Just because you saw someone else in a hat that you thought looked good, dosen't mean it will look the same on you. As a hat salesman myself, the best thing I could do is have you stand in a mirror, and have you try on exactly what you are asking for, Then, using my years of experience, let you know if there are other styles that may flatter your facial structure better. Again, Every hat is not for everybody!

i dunno i like the shape of it, how i can shape it however i liked.

i was wondering though, since your a hat salesman. do you think that 3 inch brim is to big to replicate that hat?
cause..

the squatter is 3 inch brim and the alessandria is a 2 1/2 brim

these are the two hats im deciding on cause i can get them in the colors that i want, either gray or brown..

its just im worried if three inches is to big i dont want to end up looking like a pimp in my hat,.

Door, I can tell you from recent experience, try your local antique stores/malls. I just picked up a few really nice vintage hats for very cheap by going that route. It won't happen on every trip, but you just never know what you'll find out there.
