Hey everyone!
It's a beautiful Mendocino Coast day, so I thought I'd break the rules and busted out this old colonial blocked Adam Royal Quality Panama that I bought several years ago from Shopgoodwilldotcom. The brim, previously dry and stiff, is still very pliable after treating it with coconut oil soon after I got it.

I couldn't wear it without thinking of everyone here, so I thought I'd pop in and share!
Have a great day!

Very nice! I’m curious how did you apply the coconut oil. Solid and rub it on… or melted…. Or was it like a liquid fractionated coconut oil?

I just used the solid stuff right out of the jar. About 1/2 tsp rubbed in just with finger heat to soften it. It only took about half an hour to absorb and do it's magic. The brim was very dry, and creaked ominously and made a cardboard-y sound when snapped down. One application of oil was all it took, but I gave it a light second coat for good measure. Afterwards, it was just like new.
One slight downside was that after a while it got a faint smell of stale oil. That went away after a few months. I have also had similar results using a little vegetable glycerin on a dry Panama, and no rancid oil smell.

The blue one is one you’ve seen and a late 40s/early 50s model taken completely apart, re-blocked and sewn back together to be sized from size 7 to 7 1/4, and the newly re-sized mid 50s 7 1/8 done the same painstaking way is sporting a wider vintage ribbon and bow.
Both debute new, to me, crown styling. A combination of my favorite creases. Half diamond, half teardrop offering the “square crown” look of a diamond crease and the nice rounded back of a big teardrop.
Never seen one creased like this and hope I’ve stumbled onto something others might like as well?

Today, a hat produced in South Tyrol a few years ago, in the town of Merano
Nadir 3b.jpg

The manufacturer is "M. Hutter" probably the best stocked hat shop in South Tyrol where some of my latest, so to speak, purchases come from.
Nadir 5.jpg
The production machinery was present until about seven years ago when the property was sold with everything it contained. The hats of own production, a few, plus those of the famous Italian producers, have been acquired en masse, while all the machinery has been lost
Nadir A1.jpg

The hat is made in the wake of the Italian production of about sixty years ago with colors and finishes that recall more famous productions.
Nadir interno.jpg
The activity of the company "M. Hutter" dates back to 1872 and is an area rich in wool yarns, considering that we are in the middle of the Alps, one of the key elements in European hat.
Nadir etichetta carta.jpg
The type of hat, as can be seen from the paper label, is "Nadir" which recalls a famous name in the Italian hats of other brands, the color is "Bigio" which could be translated into "grey or "ashen, dark".
Nadir A.jpg
The felt has a short fur and it is of medium thickness with matching ribbon and trim
Nadir 2.jpg

A hat made by an artisan, like many in Italy capable of producing for local buyers, but very interesting to follow the development of hat production in Italy

Always like seeing that one, John, even if it's out-of-cycle.
