Yesterday's morning escapades were completed under the brim of a gray Stetson Open Road.

Up and about early morning I was inspired to wear hats of a color theme. I sport'd a Stetson Whippet for a morning walkabout. Sage green theme started.

Cold brew coffee cool-down under an earlier Whippet. Brim "patina" aside this felt is dynamite. Green theme continuing.

I picked up freshly ground coffee and got a auto wash in a Mallory. Spiced up the theme with this hat.

Hat theme Day!

Will do Rusty! They were closed when we were down that way on Sunday. If we head back downtown I may also have to fill out an application at O’Farrell’s!

Pure beaver custom in Winchester’s Sahara color. This hat arrived yesterday and I haven’t stopped smiling.

I stole the bow design from Jim’s Gannon, but I figured he wouldn’t mind…or at most charge me a modest licensing fee.

Unlined and vents on the sides and the top. Just the thing for this summer that looks to be lasting into November.
The more I see that style of vents the more I like them. They don't break up the overall appearance of the hat like the eyelet vents do. My question is Do they work a well as the metal eyelets? Or any pros and cons your willing to share?

Boy, Tim did a bang-up job there!

I swiped the bow design from some European hat on here. So I believe it's public domain.

The vent holes are killer….

Borsalino Lobbia, or Homburg to those of us living outside of Italy. The rain started, so I had to take the photo inside the train to Copenhagen.

I think I was inspired to don a Homburg as this original Reuters photo of Winston Churchill from August 1950, I bagged at an auction, arrived today.

It came with one of Churchill and Charlie Chaplin together in 1952. Sadly, neither were wearing hats in that one. Ah well, you can't win 'em all

Wish I'd taken a better shot, but this is from a few weeks ago, when I did a couple of quick shots to sell this hat on eBay. Sad to see the old boy go. He was the first brimmed hat I bought for myself. (Previously, at around the age of eleven, I had for a couple of years a hat that came from a bag donated to charity; furfelt, probably an Olney - unlined, snowflake shape venting in the sides of the crown. Wish I still had it! Probably 1950s or 1960s, given it was just seen as an old-fashioned, second hand hat in 1985ish....). This black one I bought for all of twenty pounds in Debenhams Department Store, Belfast branch, in September 1992. All wool, unlined, textile sweatband. I wore it as a Going Out hat for many years and it held up well. I think it was last worn to a cabaret night in 2006, before I got my first furfelt fedora. I was a little misty-eyed putting him in the box to be posted off to the winning ebayer, but he'd been tucked away in a wardrobe unworn for well over a decade and it seemed wrong not to set him free for someone else to enjoy. I got a nice note in from the buyer confirming he is indeed off to a new home where he'll be appreciated and adventure anew. Maybe he'll even eventually lead the new owner here as his journey with me ultimately led.
I’ve still got my first brimmed hat (a Scala wool Bowler) which hardly ever gets worn anymore but I have an emotional attachment to it just the same. I really should let it go to someone else like you’re doing. Maybe it could help someone else discover how much fun this is the same as it did for me.

That really suits you, Steve. I wouldn’t have the courage to wear a homburg (or a cattleman’s crease)!

Nice picture of Churchill. I’m currently plowing through The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich on my kindle. Still in the Neville Chamberlain era but Winston is already making appearances as the only MP in Britain who saw through Hitler’s deceptions in the build up to war. I believe his legacy has been somewhat clouded over time but clearly still a towering figure.

The vents do work. There can be more total area with these types of vents compared to the grommeted vents found in other hats. There was a decent breeze this morning and I could feel the air movement inside the crown. The venting, the lack of a liner, and some of the thinnest crown felt extant all combine for a great warmer weather felt hat.

You wear it better than Churchill. With his face shape, I think he needs a wider brim. Your hat looks much more proportional. Have you thought of standing for parliament?
