It's hard to say. If I judged by the song for which I own the greatest number of different recordings, it'd be -- surprisingly -- "Two Sleepy People," of which I have ten different versions. I would never have guessed that. It's a great song, but I never thought of it as being that widely-recorded.

But if I had to pick a song that sums up everything that made the thirties the peak of American popular music, I'd have to go with "The Way You Look Tonight." That may be the most perfect song ever written, and the Fred Astaire-Johnny Green recording of it is just about the most perfect record to come out of the thirties.

Mine changes from day to day. I mean, my list of 'awesome songs' is really long. Death or Glory by the Clash has always been in the top 5. But at the moment I'm loving Beyond The Sea by Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra's (one for my baby) One More for the Road.

At the moment I can't quite name a favorite song, as there are some very many that I love. I do know that "Why Aren't 'Yez Eatin' More Oranges" and "The Coat and the Pants Do All of the Work (But the Vest Gets All the Gravy)" are not in the running for my top spot.

Fine performance, but so late in her career Caballe's voice had become a trifle dramatic for a failing Mimi, no? My favorite recorded performance of this selection is the Bori-Scipa disc, recorded for the Victor in '27 or 28, as I recall. Bori is in flawless voice, sweet and delicate, and Scipa sings the most poetic Rudolfo on disc.

Picking just one song is difficult. I have a number of "favorites" depending on the mood I'm in or what I may be reminiscing about at the time.

"Peaceful Easy Feeling" by the Eagles comes to mind when I think back to a girl I knew in the '70's.

Arlo Guthrie's "City of New Orleans" is another "favorite" that reminds me of a lot of wasted nights (or nights wasted) at The Antlers Tavern in Blowing Rock, NC during college days at ASU.

But, if really pressed for an "absolute favorite", I guess it would have to be Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade". I believe that's just about the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
