do you dare to commit to wear a single jacket for a month through all your waking hours?

not allowed to wear a jacket in the library unfortunately - and that is where I spend 12 hours a day currently. curious to see how this will play out though. 12 hours a day for a month will accumulate to more wear than most jackets presented here see in a year (or in most cases are sold again).

Me!

Man, I have actually been having minor anxiety just from thinking about the amount of jackets I've piled up lately - and it isn't even that much, I don't think I have more than 10, denim and leather combined. I'm trying to get rid of as many as I can and as soon as possible. Actually wanted to make a thread about how do people deal with having so many jackets...

None get as much wear as I'd like as I go thru several in one day and the worst part is, I can't stop babying them, even the cheapest of the cheap. Just annoying.

But yeah, I'm in!

12 hours/day is probably a bit much unless I use it for pajamas, but I could still put decent wear on a jacket by wearing it around 4-6 hours/day. It will probably need airing out and cleaning if you live in it for a month. But the leather will certainly have broken in considerably by the time you are done.

yeah :)
let's emulate a teenager with their 1st leather jacket, I guess s/he would do something like that.

maybe 12 hours is not realistic for many of us, so just as many hours you can, 1 jacket for a month, spend some hours every single day.

I pick my goatskin for the first project, really want to get some wear pattern on the body panel on that one.
I would wear it during the day, and air it out next to open window at night

You laugh, but this is pretty much how i break in all my jackets...
I'm a musician, i either work from home, or with people who don't care what i wear.
When i have a new jacket i will literally wear it at home pretty much like a jumper, i have it on from the time i wake up to the time i go to bed, taking it off only when cooking. I also start everyday by spraying the jacket with water.

Yes my girlfriend thinks i am crazy, no i have never slept in a jacket.

Unworn and ready for the 1st spray:

6 weeks later sprayed everyday, worn everyday:

Though why can't you guys wear a jacket to the library or work or wherever?
I have to wear a suit at work. If I would show up with a leather jacket I think I would get thrown out.
However, I try to wear my jackets as much as possible during the weekends.

To answer the question: no, I could not.

First of all I enjoy too much rotating my jackets and wearing a different one every day. Secondly, up here in the north it gets rather cold outside in the winter time and we tend to keep our houses quite warm. This means that wearing (same) jacket both in and outdoors would mean being too cold while outside and too hot while indoors.

I'm pretty much the same. I've also never particularly cared about getting accelerated wear on my jackets - but then I come at it from the angle of what I see as cool is the look people had back in the 30s-50s; I'm not interested in emulating the look of a beaten-up, seventy-plus-year old jacket now. Which is not to say that's a bad thing - just different strokes for different folks.

I never wear the same jacket outside two days in the row, I strictly rotate, the same thing I do with shoes. My NB-3 and navy peacoat is an exception on freezing days.

I want to challenge myself to wear one leather jacket for a month (at least can be extended if the goal is met) everyday, 12+ hours a day, and see how it does to the creasing, fading, character it gets by the end of the month, anyone dare to join the mission ?

The way I wear jackets is to pick one for an extended period - three or four weeks and then rotate. A real challenge would be to wear only one jacket for the entire winter. This would make me more like most people I know who might own 1 or 2 jackets in total. I also have too many jackets, like Monitor, it bugs me and I probably need to drop off 6 or 7 jackets down at the local thrift shop. Selling on eBay is too much fussing about.

I keep all my jackets in rotation, I wear one once and move onto the next one. It’s actually a bit of a challenge to keep in mind which have been worn least, but on the bright side this has put me off buying any more jackets. Like @Harris HTM if it’s freezing cold I stick with one, in my case my Aero ANJ-4. The funny thing is that I work from home a lot these days so my one trip out might be to walk to the shops, which is two minutes from my house, but it still counts as a wear. See you in thirteen jackets!

Just finished listing five jackets on eBay and Grailed. And here. Something's gotta sell!

On the other hand, I've also completed setting up an Auction Sniper on another jacket so I might as well jump off the roof right now and end the challenge the easy way.

Today is a start for me, just waking up 5 in the morning, like what Carlos did, i want to wet the jacket a bit, and then wear it.

I dont plan to wear 1 jacket for life, just for a month, after that if i see permanent creases already settling in, then i move on with the next jacket, not aiming to wear out a jacket either i guess in leather term 1 month wont even challenge its integrity, i just hope to break in the jacket properly esp the torso part so it hangs more naturally when worn open.
