Well, that was a bit of a week for sure. Sorry I haven't been posting this week; nothing to do with the presidential election on your side of the pond, but rather that my mother-in-law passed away this week. She was 89 years old, bright to the last but with very poor health recently and she passed away peacefully.
The hats were still there though and I did take pictures of them for the eagerly awaited Italian week(s). Some great hats and pics I've seen posted here this week by the way. Let's start.

Condolences for your loss, Stefan. But nice to hear she had a long and full life and that you had a great relationship with her...I wish I could say the same about my in-laws.

Good to see you back to give us all our regular dose of hat-envy.

New Akubra Avalon in Tempest. I'd say it's in between darkness and more blue than Moonstone and Carbon for those that know the Akubra color palette. Wish they'd offer this color in other styles. I'd buy them all. Really cool color. Sizing was way off on the large so had to steam around the leather band and let it dry out in the sun. Must have shrunk a good size and a half. Doesn't seem too distorted, but too much of a hassle to ship back and forth anyway. I'll hit it with the steamer again to even up some lines and bulges next time I grab it. The brim felt is very soft, but can still hold some waves, pinches, and what not.

Just out in the front side garden, stopped in the shade for a rest.. Wife's still at it wearing her new Akubra Planter, anyways, here's a snap of me wearing the imperial Silverbelly Akubra CD my wife did her first ribbon on.

edit: I would have shown a pic of the wife with hers but I was forbidden, she's under 5 foot tall, hard to see her in the garden anyways. Always confuse the garden gnomes by accident hahahah!... Woot, I'm feeling cheeky today... Living life dangerously

If only that buyer saw that C&K. ******, that's a beautiful hat!

Condolences to you and yours, Stefan, on the recent passing of your mother-in-law. A peaceful ending to a long, good life is a blessing. May you take solace in your family.

And your hats.

Thanks, Jonathan. You’re right.
Especially if the buyer found out he spent more on one well worn Strat than I did on the two Really nice C&Ks, that I was so blessed to find. :)

I’ve commented on this awesome Champ Texan before, but it deserves another.
That’s one AWESOME Champ Texan!!!

Thanks. Randall! Definitely was a closet queen. The previous owner said she only saw one picture of her grandfather wearing it on his wedding day and never remembered him wearing it on another occasion. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to find the picture.

Your story reminded me of something that happened 20 years ago: a member of my shooting club unexpectedly died and after a respectable time some of us approached his family offering to buy some of his shooting stuff that the family was only too happy to get rid of. I got my first Dillion 650 press from his estate and a few other small items. Then I saw a 30ish male family member showing an interested party a custom race gun built on an STI frame. The guy told his “customer” that after the deceased owner had the pistol made it was a “safe queen” and he didn’t know it it had ever even been shot. I, on the other hand, had seen that gun digest tens of thousands of rounds in IPSC and USPA shoots. The owner had replaced the barrel a few times in its life and it started out life as a limited class gun owned by another member of the club! Little old ladies who only drive it to church on Sundays....ha!

A fundamental color of autumn in Northern Italy was, I say it was because for some years it has been seen less, it is the gray of the fog
Amiata Pieghe piccole 6.jpg
Until a few years ago the fog stagnated for days especially in the plains, but also in the hills
Amiata Pieghe piccole 3.jpg

Now it seems to have gone on vacation and something is missing in the autumns at the foot of the Alps
Amiata Pieghe piccole 5.jpg

The color that most reminds me of it is the Amiata gray of the Borsalino felt
Amiata Pieghe piccole 4.jpg
Borsalino Qualità Superiore, size 59 cm. or 7 3/8 US. In this version it is in finished with a low pleated ribbon and hemmed brims, quite rare to find.

Thanks for your likes and compliments for the hats you showed over the weekend
