says made in US but Aussie image in liner but to me doesnt really look like any Akubra i have seen. Emailed that company in the sweatband "Leos Western Wear" he literally wont give me info unless I tell him who the seller was and their address . I got this from goodwill btw. my question to him was could he tell me who makes this hat for his company. But you guys seem to narrowed it down thanks , Throughbred , at least for the box and reading here further a sub brand of Beaver hat company .
I believe that the X rating has lost all meaning in this era. I'm not 100% (see what I did there?) sure, but I think you can rely on 100% beaver to be just that, 100X, not as much.Is there a difference today between 100% beaver and 100x beaver? I was informed today that there is a difference between 100X (silverbelly fur, taken from the center of the beaver's belly, where the fur is the softest), and 100% beaver (beaver fur from anywhere in the body).
I had never heard of this technical distinction between 100x beaver and 100% beaver. Is this common usage? Now I’m feeling ignorant.

I suppose it would have been more accurate if I said that the X rating lost all meaning EVERYWHERE.Yeah, they switched it to "NC-17". Oh, wait, you meant...never mind.
The **X's mean nothing except to the company marketing department. There is a significant price difference between beaver fur and beaver belly fur. It is an expensive upgrade when you commission a custom hat. Optimo of Chicago separate themselves by claiming to only use FEPSA beaver belly fur. Trust me when I state if it was beaver belly fur....the company would not be coy about stating that.Is there a difference today between 100% beaver and 100x beaver? X system ratings are unreliable as they vary across both time and manufacturers...
Every felt manufacturer I purchase from does not use **X's in their fur designation. It is either listed as 100% rabbit, 100% beaver, 100% nutria or some % of blend .... and the blend % is always stated.
Yes, I buy felts from the felt manufacturer. I am always clear on the quality I am purchasing. I also collect custom hats and I do have hats where the felt content is listed on the sweat. Never in the form of **X's but a plain statement of "100% beaver" or "50% beaver blend"I'm assuming you mean the felt you are purchasing.
As a consumer I have very seldom seen a blend % stated by the hat maker

The cynic in me tends to think ...maybe they don't even know.If only all of the large makers of hats could be so forthcoming, but no, they throw out a few **Xs and let us guess![]()

LOLOLOL. I've missed you!Google " **X beaver."
Go ahead, I dare ya!
