Looks good to me. A highwayman is suppose to fit boxy - that's the style of the jacket.
I personally don't like the style for that exact reason - I'd like it to be more trim specifically in the mid torso section / waist as it looks a bit like a barrel to me, but again - that IS the design of this model and how it's suppose to look.
I think it works much better for blokes with a larger gut, but anyone can rock it if they like the style.

Received this Rainbow Country Highwayman in size 40 this week. I am generally a size 38 and this jacket is my most roomiest jacket I have. Is it too big, and should I try look for a trade/repurchase for a 38? I bought this for a relatively great price second hand that I was happy to gamble on.

First three photos are unzipped, last four are zipped. Took photos in worst case scenarios of all the shots I took.

It's a little large overall, I think your idea of going for a 38 instead might be a good idea, unless you desire to put a layer under it most of the time. Still looks nice on you.

@Retserrof - I have the same jacket from RC "Hercules" and it fits similar to your fit. I think it looks great on you considering you could wear a flannel shirt underneath when weather gets a bit chilly.

I think I'll just wear this and appreciate the quality while patiently waiting for a good second hand deal to come up for a 38. Can't afford new retail, but this jacket is incredible.

I think it is a good fit. It is a Highwayman, after all. And there is room for a heavy shirt or light sweater in cold weather.
I agree that the fit is good and I’d be happy to wear the jacket as is.

I think the Highwayman style can be pretty flexible in that it could be worn a size down if a tighter t-shirt fit is wanted, however I think it best if it’s worn true to size to allow for layering when necessary.

There are other style jackets which suit a tight fit better.

That looks like how a 40 Freewheelers Mulholland fits on me. Roomy in the chest and arms but not roomy enough for a shirt comfortably. Rainbown country 40 Hercules fits like a glove and comfortable. the difference is like 0.5 to 1 cm everywhere but a big difference in feel. Sizing down probably would make it too tight. If you feel its too roomy then you may need a diff jacket. I tolerate the roominess of the Mulholland but it means I wear it not often enough!

HOOCH HAULER Fit Check, size 38 vs 40

Hello All, comments and suggestions re the fit of these two jackets will be appreciated! Of course will check in with Carrie (Thurston Bros) but in the meantime I thought I would avail myself of the collective’s wisdom.

Size 38: Badalassi leather
Size 40: Vicenza leather

In the upper R corner may be notes. All size 40’s are noted with “40” and where not obvious either “Z” zippered, or “U” for unzippered.
If not marked as “40”, then the pic is of the 38 HH.

I’m thinking that neither fits properly… but which could be made to fit better, the 38 or the 40?

FWIW, I’m not thinking of anything other than a light undergarment. The 38, although it does seem a bit restrictive is Badalassi and I’m considering going to Pinnacle leather in the 38, figuring that the thinner Pinnacle will offer a bit more room(?)

Also, I’d like to go with BUTTONS as opposed to zippers And to wear un-buttoned.

Thoughts?

Sorry for all the mumbo-jumbo editing : >(

I agree with neither. You may be able to size down to a 36 still, or it’s maybe that you’re in between sizes at 37. But if you must pick between the two options, 38 with a shortened arm length is ok. Maybe by 3-4 inches. Both jackets look too long (re back length) by 2-3 inches on you.

Do you plan to wear it zipped or unzipped? 38 feels restrictive perhaps because it’s zipped up, but it may loosen up a bit with wear.

The shoulder seems a bit tight on the 38’s front pic. That may be a nonissue because there’s a back split and if you wear it unzipped.

Thanks for the reply! Would you happen to know similar styles to the Highwayman that suit a tighter fit?

Are these standard sizes? The sleeves are way too long. Zipped sleeves can be a tad long so long as they are zip up snug at thumb, but buttoned sleeves need to be at correct length otherwise the more you wear it the more you’d regret the purchase (been there myself!).

If these are standard sizes, I’d say you need custom order based on size 40 - shoulders fit quite well, but you’ll need shorter length and sleeves

clearly the sleeves need 2” removed but rather than reinvent the hooch, why not go with the moonshiner. It’s a button front cross lapel and will save you the rubbles of custom carving up another pattern. I would ask Carrie to send you the smallest 50’s HB they have and work off that. Probably a 36” bootlegger or HB, HWM, etc.

The sleeves, as far as I know are standard length… it’s my arms that are non-standard. Clearly there will be some major modifications to shorten both the body and sleeves. A secondary concern is the diameter of the cuff, it seems far too large.

The Moonshiner was also considered, maybe it should be re-considered.

Thanks everyone for input… hope more will follow!

Cuff diameter is an easy fix. You could even DIY by moving the cuff button and restitching it to your desired location.

Figured I'd check in on this one, since it's so marginal. Jacket is a Y'2 HVR-42 in a 38, which is my typical sizing - 5'10" @ 160lbs. The jacket was actually bought by accident, since I thought I was buying a nicely patina'd KR-42. Have since bought a "new" KR-42 in a 40, which is roomier and debating whether to sell the HVR, since it seems silly to own two jackets so similar.

Hi folks, I would like to get opinions on the fit between size medium and large. To me medium feels slightly snug in the chest (but not right) and good everywhere else. Large feels a bit relaxed in the body but sleeves are too long. The store clerks says the medium look too tight and large with the sleeve shortened is the way to go.

What do y'all think? I am not sure what a delivery jacket is supposed to fit.
