I seriously need one of these...getting out my scissors.
I've always wanted to find a lip stencil!
Haven't posted much lately, so I feel like I'm slinking in. Have been collecting a lot, though - and recently bought a couple of lovely ombre flapper dresses. A blue one, and this gorgeous beaded gown from Couture Allure (happy to put in a plug here - Jody is wonderful to buy from!):

I have to say you collect some darling pieces, shame I dont have the figure to pull the 1930s/20s style of like you because I love the fashion of that era, I do own a 1920s/30s beaded evening jacket though that I'm quite pleased with I have a photo but dont know how to insert it.

I am nowhere near being the right proportions to pull off the 20's styles, but I do like to look at them. The bead work is always so intricate and gorgeous!
A few years back I had the chance to work with a costume collection, and in the museum exhibit there was a section of 1920's dresses, these are the pictures that I took, they are kind of fuzzy as I didn't want to use my flash. I wish I had now.
I know that this one belonged to Clara Bow, cannot recall if it was personal wardrobe or a film costume though, I want to say personal wardrobe The coat is beautiful, completely covered in sequins

K.McG, those are stunning! They show so much of what I love about this decade - the innovative and creative use of embroidery, the drama of the sequins, and the wonderful ingenuity of some of those straps and cutouts. Lovely!

I have nothing half as grand, as I am most charmed by '20s daywear, but I thought I'd share my newest addition, a straw cloche with some adorable velvet millinery flowers:
It was a whopping $8.00, on account of the silk hatband and lining being quite shattered. I think it's a nice display piece, though, and I hope to someday come across a rather plain cloche that I can lend the flowers to. Note: the faint black spots that are visible are from a printed scarf I am using as a temporary lining (the original silk lining was in such a state of disrepair I had to remove it).

I just about died when I saw this dress. It is gorgeous! There are so many beautiful things in this thread.
That's gorgeous, RodeoRose! It must sit so prettily on your head with that great shape. I love the trims on 1920s millinery...I've just bought a lovely little cloche that has sea-green woven straw rosettes, a cluster of silk flowers and a few coq feathers dyed the same green...a friend who saw it laughed and asked why they didn't just go ahead and add cherries to the lot! I'll have to get a good photo of it.

I really like this one too. I like fall colors a lot. Probably because my favorite season is fall (my birthday is in fall---hmmmm....never thought of that might be the reason why! lol). Plus, it does remind me of a sunset too. I love blues and greens too. I love all colors! Color is good!

Ladies, it's been awhile but I need some help. I have a murder mystery party that takes place in the 1920's. Just got my role today, and it's TOMORROW. I'm a glamorous siren type (that is my role I mean, haha), and I need help! I have a full length red gown I suppose I'll wear, but for the sake of argument, what would a woman in the 20s wear for FORMAL wear? I have shoulder-length hair and my body type is all wrong (I have a 50's figure). Please help - advice on how to do hair and how to dress and accessorize appreciated. Now, I'm off to browse this thread.

I'll suggest something long and slinky with a dropped waist. As for the hair, finger waves on each side of a part and a tight chignon in back. Have fun!

Found this recently here in Sydney at a vintage clothing fair...I have such a weakness for 1920s French lamé shawls. Most were made in Lyon, which was the centre of the French silk weaving trade. They represent a real high point for the art, and feature exquisite abstract and/or floral art deco patterns.
I'm on a bit of a lamé kick at the moment - I recently bought a dance dress with beaded chiffon panels over a lamé base, and have just put a gorgeous lamé opera cape with one of my favourite dealers on layaway.

Another recent fair find - a beaded purse with a carved celluloid frame (at a brilliant price!). This is an area I could almost go into collecting exclusively, as I love these handles. I also have a weakness for orientalism in the fashion of the teens through to the 20s.
