Sadly..George Jones passed away today.
My favorite country singer. I had a chance to meet and talk to him for a few hours in the late '60s.
RIP

I found out yesterday that Bob Brozman, incredible slide guitar player, world music collaborator, and literally the guy who wrote the book on National steel guitars passed away. Only 59, a sad loss. RIP Bob.

I was shocked to hear it too Tom.
With the way Country is going these days, I'm not sure anyone can even come close.
He was somewhat vocal about the direction too. :D
I posted in the TV section, that I've found a Hee Haw on the DVR with George and Tammy. Really a golden episode IMHO.

It left me with a deep sadness. He was one of a kind and once had
a partner that made a duet of country music perfection...

My Dad plays country bass professionally & has for years. He did a show several years back with Janie Fricke & they were to play before Mr. Jones. Janie would ask him to tune her guitar before the show & did this time. She had left it back stage & asked him to go get it. He said as he passed through the door he saw George on the floor, on all fours, barking at him like a dog! :eusa_doh:

Janie had obviously put dad up to it as a joke. He said George's bodyguard just stared at him & shook his head.

I always wanted to meet him, from the time I was a kid. I was going to go see him in concert last year, and missed it due to work. Planed on it this year, and well, he never got that far.

A friend of mine owns a truck that belonged to him and met him a few years ago. He autographed the interior panels for him. I've gotten to drive it and I guess I'll have to be satisfied with that as my closest connection to one of my heroes.

He was a giant, an incredible, visionary talent... In today's effects-dominated entertainment world, his influence simply can't be overstated.

And personally speaking, seeing Jason and the Argonauts in a theater when I was 8 years old remains one of the greatest filmgoing experiences of my life!

The man lived a long life but I am sad to read of the death of Ray Harryhausen. As a kid, I absolutely loved his stop-motion work! The guy was an effects pioneer.
