It was a two OR day, my 3x this morning.

My new hemp OR this afternoon. The brim is a little wonky, my head shape doesn't help, but I really like the lightness of the hemp.

Herb Kelleher, flamboyant founder of Southwest Airlines, found the Dow Jones ticker symbol he wanted for his new company. Unfortunately, another company owned that ticker. He challenged the other CEO to arm wrestle for the ticker at a public event in the Sportatorium. Herb lost. The other CEO got such great publicity that he gave Herb the ticker anyway. Southwest Airlines has since then been known as the airline of LUV!

My older brother used to take me to the Sportatorium for wresting nearly every week. Got to see Fritz von Erich master of the Iron Claw in his prime. Note that Fritz started out as a villain type and later changed over to his "good guy" role.

The Sportatorium also hosted the Big D Jamboree, a music event similar to the Louisiana Hayride. Saw George Jones there once when he was so drunk they had to give him a chair because he couldn't stand up. My sister got to see an up and comer there by the name of Elvis (I was too young).

I’ve been under this new-to-me early 50s (maybe older) Melton Ten all day. More on the “Melton Art in Hats” thread:

Here he is alongside a piece of reading material for this week: Ray Monk’s intellectual biography of Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein is recommended for anyone interested in the beginning of the so-called analytical school of philosophy. It’s a great read under a vintage fedora such as this Melton.

O’Farrell #3 of the three recent arrivals. All custom made for the same gentleman. This hat features a silver and gold Navajo story-teller concho hat band (which is what I was bidding on — the hat actually fitting was a lucky coincidence).
