Wore my panama this past week-end. Got some appreciative comments on the "nice hat" and than on Sunday a woman said her husband had to wear an "old man's hat" like mine because of skin cancer. She called it that three times.:( Oh,well...

I walked in a bar Saturday nite and 3 young punks were making fun of my ol Stetson straw. Now, I'm in my 50's, so it wouldn't have been a fair fight. I'da whupped all their asses. :D

They were just plain givin me the sh*t. It's was funny. Here I am long hair, bandana, cowboy hat. They're like ballcap buzz cuts dating themselves.

It's one of those things that coulda been a fight in the parking lot... that turned into a beer together in the parking lot w/ goodwill extended all round.

I was just joking. Those kids woulda kicked my ass on the way out the door.

Like I've said before round here. I hang out in a bar w/ Wild Bill's DNA all over it. :D And I Love "The Dakota Rose."

We have fun. Once in a while it's like the old west. Not often.

I wear hats all the time: fedoras, newsboy or my new Bushman. Each morning I board the metro into downtown Washington DC joined by many other hatwearers. Lots of fedoras and broadbrim hats I might add. I've never heard a negative comment and I wouldn't care if I did. Life is too short to worry about what other people think. I dress for myself and win approving nods from like-minded ladies and gents. Creative and unique folks who are confident in their individuality; the type of people who should never worry about what others think. (like the woman in my life).

Remember, it's not just the hat you're wearing, but the way you wear it!

I just love it when my clothing is referred to as a COSTUME!!!! ~!@#~!@#~!@#$:rage: :rage: lol

I love it when people ask "are you in fancy dress?" or whatever (normally, to be fair, it's because I am in some form of costume - typically Rocky Horror related at the minute).... normally I just look them up and down, smirk, and say "Well, darling.... it's Saturday night - one of us had to make an effort." Which always confuses them. Especially if it's Thursday.

Ha ha, I'd totally forgotten, but i used to get that.... waaaaaay back in the day when I got my first proper hat (i.e. not a baseball cap). Bought it in the debehams Sale, a felt Trilby with a 2" brim, GBP8. Not a bad hat - wore it with black tie for a long time. I'ts been usurped by a more recent hat now, though it's still on standby should I prefer it for a specific look or want to wear it out somewhere that I don't want another more expensive hat getting hurt! Anyhow.... I wore it with a black wool trenchcoat at the time... every Sunday night as I walked down to the Church youthgroup, there used to be a gang of kids on one corner would shout "Freddy Kreuger!" at me. I guess that was the only person they'd ever seen in a hat to that point...

In San Francisco last week, from one of the "homeless" guys sitting on the sidewalk, as I walk past in my straw......
"Hey, cowboy, got any money?"

Heh, thanks. Oh, and here's one for Taxman: a while back one of the local winos shouted "hey! John Wayne!" at me in my Boston (that's what the maker says it's called, anyhow - I've not yet seen that term anywhere else?? Kind of a wide brimmed fedora style). I turned and dropped the hat off, a la this photo:

and said....

"Surely you mean Yul Brynner?"

I think it would have been funnier if he'd known who Yul Brynner was.... :p

We were having a discussion about fedoras on another non-hat forum when an individual wrote the following:
I only ever seen them worn by Pimp Daddys and wannabes

I replied:
In the olden days a boy wasn't considered a man until he could wear a fedora in a mature manner.

It seems very little has changed.
