HAS (Hat Acquisition Syndrome) strikes hard.. and fast. Before you know it you are up to your elbows in hats. And you get.. the look… every time a new box hits the door step. ”oh what’s that.. ANOTHER EMPTY BOX”
Im my position Im very fortunate.... retired, just me and the dog, a couple spare rooms and a fair amount of closet and wall space. The puppy doesnt seem to mind with a new box shows up. The new white lab must like the smell of older hats because he always trots over to sniff and help me with the morning hat pictures. Life is good

:)

I think I have room for one more hat that lives in it’s own box and then I’m going to have a problem.

Question being; at what point does this require an intervention? lol

Which of these two styles of hat do you prefer, if you have a preference, and why?

If you are interested you can click the link and see more photos of each.

These are the hats Brent Black calls “Safari Edition”.

All the specs are in the screenshots.

It's really hard to choose between them. Is there a slight difference in the crown with the Kentucky having the bump and mombasa having the dent? I think I also prefer the stiffer brim of the Kentucky.

The Mombasa seems to have a more rounded crown with a softer pinch, and the crown is taller. Also it looks like the Mombasa crown is more consistent, whereas the Kentucky Smith crown is intentionally taller in the front. The Mombasa has a center dent and the Kentucky Smith has a more common fedora crown, but I can't think what to call it at the moment.

Both hats are available in brim widths from about 2 1/2" to 3 1/2"+ and from the photos both brims slope down in front and back as opposed to curling up in the back as with a traditional fedora.

I like the taller crown on the Mombasa, but overall I think I like the shape of the Kentucky Smith a bit more. However, I was trying to lean away from Brent's "Classic Fedora" since that one is the most commonly available.
