And I want to do it right!

I'm spending a few days over christmas with my family in Sin City (Doesn't make it sound too family friendly does it?). The youngest is me, at 21, so we're going to have a good time. Here's what I want to do:

-Gamble (shouldn't be too hard)
-Wear my tux (Preferably while gambling)
-NOT have to drop 10 grand on a table in order to fit in
-Any other fun stuff people may have done.

If any Loungers have been to Vegas and can reccomend venues (keeping in mind I'm a student!) I would be greatly appreciative. Never been to vegas before, and I'm looking forward to it!

Cheers
Craig

Use the concierge. High-roller or not, it's amazing the tickets and comps you can get just by asking. Whatever you get, express an interest at coming back again and again.. They'll give you more TLC if they get the genuine idea you will come back.

You have to spend some money on the tables and make sure you tip well. Cheapskates don't get VIP treatment.

There are some good clubs out there, you might be able to get ahead of the lines through your concierge as well.

Beautiful women in Vegas clubs...

BOSTON! LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!
If you're wearing a tux and gambling, you must have a martini in hand, shaken, not stirred....
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to the Celine Dion Show!!!! UGH!!!!
I haven't been to the Venetian, but my parents have stayed there, and they said it was great.
I haven't been to Vegas in a long time, but I remember Circus Circus being a good time. But, as I've said, it's been a long time, and Vegas has changed a lot. Anyone else been there? I remember seeing a good show there.

Most of all, take in some shows, hold tight to your wallet, and have fun:)

Las Vegas Recommendations

Las Vegas is a pretty marvelous place and offers all sorts of fun and thrills. It is a place based on money and is constantly re-inventing itself. One thing is to have a fun time, knowledge is the key. If you are going to gamble, it is good to know what you are doing so read up on the game or games you want to play. There are tons of books on each game you can pick from, do a search for the Gamblers Bookstore which you can also visit while there.

Next a guide book is helpful, always try to find one that is up to date such as “The Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas” or maybe Frommers. My favorite is “Access Las Vegas” but it hasn’t been updated in ages and that is a shame. Anyway, they can help with where to stay, and who has what, from shops to restaurants. They will have tips and info on how to get around.

If you haven’t been there and have the time, try to visit as many of the big places as possible, as to reconnoiter for next time as it were. I like to visit during the weekdays so it is not as frantic and crowded as the weekends. I usually stay at the Gold Coast, which is about 5 minutes off the strip near the Rio and the Palms. Clean, small, comfy and a good buffet. Last time we stayed at the South Coast which has been renamed the South Point. Very nice and new, but it is about a 15-20 minute ride to the strip, which is a draw back for those that don’t like to wait. They have a shuttle that is free which is cool. Accommodations in Vegas run the gamete, and usually you are just there to sleep and get cleaned up so why send a lot on a room.

Things to see:

Caesars Palace from outside and inside and you must see the Forum Shops! In the shops try to catch Bacchus in his routine and the Atlantis show.

At the Bellagio is this Atrium room near the front desk that is reset seasonally as a complete garden, this is a great place to take pictures. At night watch the dancing fountains out front.

At the Venetian: make your way to St. Marks Square and the shops.

The Dessert Passages off the Aladdin are cool too.

MGM try to see the Lion display, they are big! IF you’re by the MGM go over to the NYNY and then to the Excalibur, take the tram to the Luxor and go to the floor above the casino to be in the atrium. Huge space.

At the Mandalay Bay they have some cool bars and fine restaurant and an aquarium.

Go up to the top in the Stratosphere! Ride the rides at your own risk. Also they have a revolving restaurant up there that is nice. great view too!

Tropicana is very tropical.

Try to see the Car museum at the Imperial Palace.

At the Mirage at night if it is not too windy watch the Volcano blow, this stops traffic. Next door Treasure Island there is a pirate versus Syrens battle with full size ships and one sinks.

Visit Wynn, I haven't made it there yet!!!!

The LV Fashion Mall is really nice.

Try to work in a 4 star restaurant meal.

Visit the Antique malls; Red Robin is a favorite of mine. I have not been to any thrift store in Vegas yet.

Where you are staying, at the little convenience store there should be a couple of weekly Vegas magazines that list shows, restaurants, trips and stuff. They list times and some have coupons. Worth looking through for suggestions. (The Amazing Elvis Monkeys or Liberace on Ice?) Speaking of Liberace, the museum is fun if you know who he is and remember him.

A visit to the Hoover Dam is a nice change of pace if you are there for more than a few days. “I am your Dam tour guide; take all the Dam pictures you want.” It is more self guided now.

There are tons of things to do there but if you are there when it is good weather, take some time to relax and swim down by the pool. I usually do it late in the afternoon, around 3-4pm so I can go up shower and relax a bit before going out for dinner.

Learn to play CRAPS!

Sincerely,

Thanks very much for all the tips guys and gals! Keep 'em coming :D

John, I'll definatley take a gander at that Car Museum, my father and I are both very much into classic cars; his first was a Jaguar E-type (XKE this side of the water) that he picked up for I think 200 pounds from a scrapyard and restored. Imagine paying 400 USD for an XKE?

Also, I found a little place that may appeal to the Rambo in all of us: "The Gun Store" allows you to rent a machine gun (From m-16's to mp5's to support weapons) and have at it in their indoor range. Being from Canada, where most of this stuff our military doesn't even have, it should be a neat experience.

Cheers

Vegas is one of my very favorite cities!!

Some of the buffets are excellent, especially the seafood buffet at the Rio.

Don't buy in to the 'Free Show Tickets' or 'Free $100'. Chances are those people will be at every hotel, in every casino trying to get you to sign up for this time share thing. Really high pressure sales, and they made my mom cry.

If you get a chance, check out The Attic-it's a HUGE vintage clothing store. I think it costs $5 to get in. My husband and I had big plans to go there, but alas all the booze and gambling got in the way. [huh]

You're going to have so much fun!!

I can personally give this 2 thumbs up (both hands) for fun. I have shot the MP5 and the Styer in 9mm, both are great, but f they still have it, the full auto Mac10 in 45ACP that is fully Silenced was a dream to shoot. During the Soldier of Fortune convention week they will have a really cool timed competition.

I think the Survival Store (if it is still there) does the same.

If you go during the SOF convention the Big Shoot out at the range is great to watch, you can watch competative shooting in other areas and after the shoot you can rent really big machine guns! How big? Ma Duece and sometimes a chain gun the rotqating barrels type machine gun. Bring $$$$$!
