Anybody care to venture a guess as to the age of this carbon arc movie projector? I saw it just sitting around at the studio where I work. Click the thumbnails for the bigger pictures.
It's here! Art Fawcett's new "Tropic-Aire" design finally pushed me over the edge into ordering my very first custom hat. As some of you know, I gave Art free rein in the choice of crown height, brim width and even the color scheme, as I have complete confidence in his taste.
I did ask...
I got this one a long time ago, but just realized I never took any detailed pictures until now. This is a Stetson Royal Deluxe, sold at Remick's department store in Quincy, Mass, which was owned by the father of the late actress Lee Remick.
The liner has no covering whatsoever over the logo...

Brooke Astor, who died at 105 Monday of pneumonia at Holly Hill, her Westchester County estate, was perhaps New York City's last grande dame, an all-but-extinct breed...
I'm rather surprised that there isn't a thread dedicated to this movie yet.
AMC has been playing The Godfather and Part II repeatedly over the last month or so, and I recently got the DVDs from Netflix so I could watch the full version without commercials, edits and pan-n-scan.
The films...
Gotta thin the herd, starting with the ones that don't fit. This one was advertised as a 7-1/2 with no size tag visible. When I got it home it said 7-5/8 regular oval on the label under the sweat.
It's a beauty, the sweatband is soft and supple, the liner is nice and clean as is the rest of...
I had to jump on this one, even though I've managed to stay away from the Bay for a while.
It's brown and it's really fuzzy, almost Huggy Bear fuzzy, but I did a double-take when I saw the logo on the liner and the sweat. Not 1970s at all, but what do you think, maybe 1920s?
Take a...
Lawman's plea was simple. Somebody buy this hat and keep me out of divorce court!
Well, strictly in the spirit of supporting the institution of marriage, and not at all because I love vintage Dobbs hats and my favorite color all my life has been green, I stepped up. Here it is...
OK, how 'bout a thread for our Knox lids? Mine's led a hard life, with a hole in the felt and at least one renovation as evidenced by a tag inside. Here goes...
I rebashed it so that the hole in the felt at the front of the crown doesn't show. I guess that's the best that can...
I guess I won't be going to Teheran for my next custom suit:

Seriously, I'm glad that's over and they're OK.

If you haven't checked this site out, give it a try. Dave Cox (Is he on the Lounge? He ought to be!) sports a fine fedora as he delivers the news as it happens, or rather, as it happened on this day 67 years ago. I wonder what kind of hat it is, and if it's modern...
I was sitting down this evening to watch the original "Airport" which I recorded on my DVR from TCM a few days ago. I realized I was wearing my Resistol 707 stingy with its Boeing 707 hat pin. I hadn't planned it, it just happened that way.
Does anybody else wear an appropriate hat...
The French liner SS France entered service in 1961, so she's not technically a Golden Era liner, but as there are steamship enthusiasts here, I pass along this link, along with a "What the...?"

It seems the former SS France, which...
This one's a mystery. The liner says Knox, the sweat and the labels under it say different, or do they? It's big, has a Cav edge, 5" crown bashed, and a 2-5/8" brim. Sadly, there's a hole at the front of the crown, but the felt feels nice and it has a great vintage look.

Here's where I got my tail coat and accessories for Friday dinner on the Queen Mary. Not perfect, but it did look pretty darn good.
http://www.finetuxedos.com/index.aspx
Click on "Tuxedo Tails." I got the "Milan."
What hats will you be bringing to the Queen Mary this Friday?
I decided to rent a car for the weekend, as I wasn't looking forward to driving my little pickup all around the L.A. Basin. I should have enough room for half a dozen hats or so. I haven't decided which ones to bring, but I'm...
Every time I think I have more than enough hats, one comes along that's different from all the rest. This is it, a Resistol in a wonderful sage green color in that nice kitten finish. It has a 3-3/8" brim with a Cav-like edge.
I've only ever seen three green vintage fedoras on the 'Bay, I...
My Stetson Stratoliner finally showed up, so I thought I'd gather my two aviation-themed lids and show 'em off.
The Stratoliner was named for the first pressurized airliner, as we all know. Mine is unlined, and has what appears to be a $6.50 price tag inside the sweatband. If that's what...
Here's my entry for membership in the Ten Dollar Hat Club. Snagged it for the $9.95 opening bid. Surprising, as it's a 7-1/2 LO which is just a little big for me. I can wear it OK, though, it doesn't hit my ears.
The brim is 2-1/2" with a stitched underwelt, and the crown is about 5-1/4"...
