All good ones, Michael. I would add Bickmore 4 as it's what I use on boots and sweats. Moon uses Chamberlains leather milk but I've no experience with their product, though I'm sure it's a good one.

Thanks Greg and Michael R. I also got some advice from LuvMyMan while the site was down. I don't think I've ever seen Bickmore 4 or Chamberlains Leather Milk. I'll have to take a look around town and see if there is anyone that carries them locally. I've been using Cadillac on all of my shoes lately. I need to put something on a couple of leather coats I have too.

If you get Brick 4 , (Brick 1 is the cleaner) get the 12 oz , better buy , good for everything , Leather Jackets , sweats , furniture , boots , shoes , safe , non-toxic .

I own a couple of cheapo fedoras (sacrilege, I know) and they don't look quite right on me, pretty serious taper on both, not very tall, one teardrop crown and the other center dent, but I've been thinking about getting a good and proper one and I've been trying to figure out the shape that fits my face best. I am trying to keep the style 1930s-40s so the stingy brims aren't really my thing. I hope my avatar will give a good idea of my face type and I appreciate any and all assistance you fine folks can give me!

Any straight sided higher crown 4 and 3/4 to 5+ inches creased/ bashed height and pinched to your liking. Min brim dimensions 2 and 3/8 to 2 and 3/4 inches. Thats just a very general starting point. Higher crowns and bigger brims if your comfortable.

Hello,

I am new to the forum, but thought this would be an appropriate place to ask my question.

I am a vintage fedora enthusiast, but am having difficulty finding a new fedora in the style that I seek. The main obstacle I have been facing is that my size 7 5/8, seems to be quite difficult to find new or vintage.

I have seen several brand new 7 5/8 Stetson's for sale, but unfortunately, they are not in the style that I seek. What I wish to purchase is a new hat that looks like THIS:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vinatge-Men...291799?hash=item28211dc857:g:XHQAAOSwMNxXaHZD, but is size 7 5/8 (the one picture is a 7 I believe).

The very few brand new fedoras that are available are totally different in style than what I seek i.e.; http://www.stetson.com/hats/saxon-in-walnut

Most of the new brand new Stetsons available are remeinisant of Indiana Jones, or are similar to the larger sized fedoras popular in the 1930s-40s and feature large floppy brims or are western in appearance. The style I seek seems to be of the late 1950s-early 60s era-short small no floppy brims/smaller hat in general.

Does anyone know of where I might find the hat that I seek? Is there anyone out there who could/would custom make such a hat for me- I would be willing to pay what it costs!

Any and all thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are appreciated!

However, I might add that I would much prefer a fedora with a non adjustable brim (always down); Is there a technical name for that in hat jargon? I own a vintage fedora that is exactly what I am seeking (but is 7 1/2), and the brim does not adjust (again my apologies for lack of better clarity/correct hat terminology). I find that the fedoras that are able to be adjusted tend to look quite tall when turned down and appear for lack of a better word "Indiana Joneish".

The style I am seeking can be seen in this 1959 photograph :http://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-ac...h-two-hostesses-before-boarding-69292115.html featuring comedian Shelley Berman boarding a TWA flight. Notice his hat is short in height and features a narrow compact brim. Most likely it was non adjustable (brim permanently down but I am still not sure of the proper name for that in hat jargon) since the entire hat does not look overall tall.

Anyway, I would love to know the exact name of the type of hat I am trying to describe. Perhaps, someone here can articulate my description into an official name for this type of fedora. This would help differentiate. Thank you very much for your patience with my limited knowledge and I hope to hear additional input from those with knowledge!

Know of any in this same style, in which the brim does not have to be pulled down to look like a real fedora, but is rather permanently in this state? The fedoras that require pulling the brim tend to make the crown comically tall!-I want the crown to look about the same size (as it does in the picture) permanently.

I have a couple of vintage fedoras that fit my desired description; they arrived with the brim permanently down, and therefore the crown is short, and the hat appears exactly like the one in my picture: This is the hat I want; but in size 7 5/8

Also is a 4' crown the shortest typically available (not sure how short they get?!). There's no such as a fedora in which the brim is "permanently" down, nor one in which it "has" to be adjusted.

You're wlcm. As others have suggested, if you can, visit a shop try some on and go with whatever you like on you. You're the one that has to wear the hat.

Fedora seeker,I am a 7 5/8 as well.If you browse various threads one thing I can pretty well guarantee is that your tastes will evolve over time.I believe most will suggest that you'll move to larger brims and taller,straighter crowns.
You don't say where you're located but if at all possible a visit to a brick and mortar hat store would help you try several styles.

Fedora Seeker - does this one suit you? I have a Dobb 40 like this almost exactly - tall crown with small brim - the felt being a 40 shapes very easily - so you can do anything you want to the brim.
