Again, probably asked many times over but here we go. Just picked up my dream hat, Open Road Twenty Five Silver Belly and discovered the wind trolley button has a rust line on it.
-How can I remove the rust mark on the wind trolley button?
    Thank you,
    Mike A

I need to know what years are most United Hatters. Caps and Millinery stamps found in hats. I have a Stephen L. Stetson with one in it and I'm trying to date it.

You could go to this thread for more information on union labels in hats.... -> LOOK FOR THE UNION LABEL

The short answer to your union stamp question is that stamp started in 1934. That doesn't help a lot with dating your Stephen Stetson hat.

Do you know what the red number means on the stamp?

Ahh well I do know that the horizontal bug on the stamp is earlier and my SLS has alot of the 40s signs.

Just got an old Penny's Marathon fedora. Does anyone know what kind of felt the hat was made of?
Looks really nice. I would have thought it has beaver in it.

  13. Most likely rabbit or rabbit/hare blend. There were levels of Marathon & beaver content was probably in the Supreme Quality line.

Mike, Did you ever get this question answered? I'd be interested in how to tackle this problem as well.

Just checked. I have the SUPERIOR Quality. I suppose that's down a level from Supreme!

Don't know if this was asked or answered:
    What is paper straw?
What are the differences between paper straw, palm straw, shantung straw, other-kinds-of-straw-used-to-make-hats-that-I-might-not-know-the-name?

Unless I'm mistaken (which is certainly possible), paper straw and shangtung are interchangeable terms.

Just found this Open Road and I'd appreciate anyone's thought on dating it. I like the 4-way bash, but the coolest thing about it is that it was originally sold by a hatter in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Alas, the unfortunate thing is that it's a 7 - too small for my nog, so it'll prolly go up on eBay (unless someone here needs the curative powers of a medicine hat).

Hmm, well, 50's sometime. A thorough reading of the "Dating Stetsons by size tag" thread may reveal a more precise estimate.
