No, you're not acronym challenged, Max. I've been here for ~10 years and I've never seen 'PHD' either.
Lol!Hmmm. I learned the acronym here at the Lounge. Maybe I’m hanging out in the seedier hat threads.

John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Not to my knowledge Bill. The current Winchester offering is decidedly more black than cherry. You might be able find a hatter that has a few of the older production hat bodies lying around. Good luck with your search. Is it possible to get a black cherry thats not almost completely black?

Gotta be one of my Panamas. I have a feather lite Optima that I wear and sometimes forget it is there as it is so light. The last time I went to Cuba I only took a baseball cap. Bought a woven banana leaf trilby that was the hottest most uncomfortable thing I have ever placed on my head. Luckily it only cost me $2....that should have been my first clue. What hat would you wear on an island in the tropics?

Yes, rain is a problem. Although my experience in Cuba was the rain was short and sharp and I would duck into a bar and drink rum til it abated.I thought of a Panama. I have a Cuenca from VS but I don’t think it is meant for the rain.

Nice Sunbody. I tried one last Summer and while it seemed indestructible, I am thinking something a little lighter may be in order.I'd wear a Sunbody.

Heavier, warmer, and more "rough around the edges" than a traditional Panama/straw hat, but it provides better sun protection and you wouldn't have to worry about it getting wet if you got caught in a sudden tropical rainstorm. I linked to the model/style I got, but they have a decent variety of styles to choose from. It's advertised as having a 2-1/2" wide brim, but mine is 2-3/4". And if the black band isn't to your liking you can easily change it:
